I’d like to preface this with the fact that I am a former waiter and have a great deal of empathy for restaurant staff. I have been to hundreds of restaurants all over the world and have never left a bad review. I have decided to leave one tonight after experiencing a degree of rudeness, arrogance and hostility that I have not come across before in the service industry. Such a shame, because we were looking foarward to eating at this restaurant and drove to the village especially to do so.
What happened? Upon being told that the kitchen was really busy and that our orders would not be taken for a while, which is totally understandable, we politely asked for some bread because our 8 year old son was hungry. The male waiter, a flamboyant man in his 40s, initially refused to give us any bread, saying that it would fill us up and we wouldn’t have any appetite left for the meal. After we explained that it was for our son, he picked up a basket from the side, which had a few pieces of dry baguette in it, and tossed it onto our table in a hostile manner. Moments later he came back and asked us what we wanted to eat. We were unsure about whether or not we wanted to stay there at that point, due to the way he made us feel, and as he sensed this he grabbed our drinks, and the bread from in front of our son as he was eating it, and thew us out. I stress that my wife and I were polite throughout and our son was totally calm and lovely.
Having thought about the experience, I suspect this sort of behaviour was not a one-off for this man and I am not sure how he remains employed in a customer...
Read moreOur experience at La Farigoule last night was awful.
I booked the restaurant as it had mostly positive reviews and I wanted to show my family the pretty village of Le Castellet. However, the way we were treated by the waiter was appalling. Firstly, we were told that he could not take our order as the ‘chef in the kitchen was alone and had too many orders already.’ He added that ‘good things come to those who wait’ alluding to us being impatient. He made it sound like it would take a very long time get our food. At that point our 8 year old son was really hungry, so we asked politely if he could have a bit of bread while we wait to put our order in. At that, the waiter rolled his eyes at us and said: ‘you shouldn’t eat bread as it will just fill you up before your meal’. I explained that my son is just a child and he is very hungry. The waiter grabbed a basket of dry bread from the side which looked like it had been on someone else table and tossed it on our table. At that point my husband and I were quite shocked by the waiter’s rude behavior so when he came to take our order I said to him that we’d need time to think what we might want (if anything). At that point he lost his temper, grabbed our aperitif glasses and my son’s bread and told us to leave immediately, so that he could give the table to someone else.
I don’t know if the food is good or not here, but even if it is delicious, being treated like this is unacceptable and unprofessional and it ruined our evening. We will never go back to this place. Don’t waste your time and money at...
