Sadly neither the food nor the service lived up to our expectations given the high rating the restaurant has. The service started out well, but as more guests arrived and the place filled the service suffered and it felt extremely understaffed. The food was also simply not very good and incomparable with several other meals we had in Bandol. As a starter we opted to share a Fritto Misto. Then for mains we went for their special of the day, a Caesar salad, the pasta with calamari & shrimp and the child menu with breaded chicken & fries for our youngest. The Fritto Misto was ok, not particularly fresh or well seasoned, but edible. The pasta with calamari and shrimp was ok. My wife and daughter both had this and both said it would have been a lot nicer with more shrimp and less calamari, as the dish had so much calamari and this was underseasoned, and just two shrimps. The salad had absolutely nothing in common with a Caesar salad. Instead it was a breaded chicken salad with obscene amounts of breaded chicken, some tomatoes, a boiled egg, parmesan shavings, a mix of arugula, frisée and radicchio (as far as I could make out inside all the dressing), all drenched in an enormous amount of a white, milk tasting dressing. Very disappointed in itself and even more when sold as a Caesar salad. I was raised to eat what's on my plate, but for once, I had to capitulate half way through the sad, soggy battle. As mentioned the service started out really well when we arrived as one of the early guests. But as the place filled up with more guests it started being increasingly difficult to get contact with the waiters, and finally when the place was full we failed to get the bill as we simply couldn't get the attention of the waiters for over 30 minutes. In the end we marched inside to force payment at the counter so we could leave. With a total bill of 120, for just one starter, 3 mains, one child menu, two glasses of wine and two simple ice cream desserts, it unfortunately felt like poor value and we had much better meals in Bandol for the same price.

Located in a small charming area outside of the main stream of restaurants and flow of people with very little traffic, you are welcomed by a friendly staff who can speak english as well! They are also very reactive when you have a request to make or a question to ask. The menu is short but includes varied local dishes. We took a burger with some savory cheese from Savoie and steaked tuna Japanese style (sweet soy sauce). Both of them were delicious and their presentation on the plate were spot on. We really recommend this place. If you want to go there you really have to book a table by phone. We were very lucky to get a table without any booking and saw many guests being turned away by the restaurant manager and waiter. A 5 star rating for La Table de Romain!

Seriously one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had! Romain and his Chef are a small but great team. The small restaurant has around 7 tables, and believe me, consider yourself lucky if you got one. Romain, the server and owner, gave us excellent advise on what wine to choose. In general we enjoyed very interesting conversations with him. The food was out of this world, the preparations and presentation of each plate is top notch, going into Gastro level. The food is not only delicious, the portions have a decent size, too, so you really have a real meal. As dessert I had the Tiramisu, which was prepared in a way i haven't seen before and it tasted so good, too. Thank you, Romain and thanks to your Chef for a perfect evening.
