Tamaris Plage — Restaurant in Toulon

I’m extremely disappointed to have to write a review. I’ve been coming here for 3 years since the pandemic and it’s very clear the staff has changed and for the worse. It’s disheartening to feel treated less than human and long story short, I was there to try to book for a day for 15 ppl and mid August with my son and stayed for lunch bc I adore the chef and the food is high grade. I think there was a misunderstanding bc I waited a while with my son before being sat then they stuck an entire family who’s 4 kids were screaming so loud you could hear them by the sea. I don’t blame the kids for being kids but I am upset I had to leave immediately and when I asked to just sit somewhere to finish my burger they were unhelpful. I’m not sure when they became more Paris less south but I’m genuinely not coming back to what was my best experience since moving to France. The only reason it’s not 1 star is bc the burger is still to this day Delicious and the restaurant is well situated. Restaurant détestable, à déserter.

Si la cuisine est correcte, concoctée avec soin par un chef cuisinier compétent, l'établissement est dirigé par une équipe de malhonnêtes qui ne respectent pas leur personnel. Pour y avoir travaillé un certain temps, la gargote se présente comme un lieu paisible qui offre à ses hôtes un moment de détente les papilles pleines de douces saveurs méditerranéennes, les pieds dans un lagon et les yeux dans un décor idyllique de carte postale.

Mais sous la face visible de l'iceberg, il y a des employés exténués qui travaillent sans relâche sans aucun jour de repos hebdomadaire de 9h jusqu'à tard le soir avec une courte pause d'une heure ou deux entre deux "services". Côté conditions de travail, l'équipe des trois gérants semblent vivre au 19ème siècle et semblent avoir oublié la législation sur le travail. Ils sous-payent leurs employés, partiellement au noir, s'exonérant ainsi de cotisations sociales et pratiquant le travail non déclaré, des heures supplémentaires non récupérées, faiblement rémunérées... Certains sont en poste et n'ont pas signé de contrat de travail. Le travail n'y est pas payé au taux horaire du smic mais selon un "forfait" mensuel évidemment décidé au rabais. Honteux.

Côté logement des travailleurs, c'est une escale au Tiers-Monde qui est offerte après 10h ou 12h de travail.

Ce restaurant, soigné en apparence, est en réalité un retour à l'esclavage pour ceux qui y sont salariés. Mais des esclaves dociles qui font de la bonne cuisine...

Excellent restaurant and bar with private beach facilities, i.e., transats, parasols, boat, paddle boat. Must reserve (transat) in season. Expectation by owners that beach visitors will eat in restaurant. Makes sense but was not originally apparent to our party from North America. Owner clarified and all was well. Food really delicious, so we just ate and drank heavier at midday and lighter at night. Visited in 2016 and 2018. Will definitely return! Merci Jean-Michel...
