MATHUZAR — Restaurant in Valence

My wife and I were using the car charger Infront of the hotel. We went inside and asked for a table in the restaurant. We sat down and found something to eat. The waiter then took our order and asked for room number. We told her we didn't stay at the hotel and we were just using the car chargers. She made a face like we were lying and then went to the desk. My wife then went to the toilet and I saw the waiters looking at our table and talking, I made eye contact with one of then (waiters) and then I understood that they were talking about us. She quickly looked the other way and pretended they weren't talking. I noticed that the other waiter went to the same toilet my wife was on. My wife came back to the table and said she just had a weird feeling that they kept an eye on us. She told me the waiter came in and was surprised to see my wife standing at the mirror and quickly went into the handicap booth. When my wife went out she could hear the door go up with no flush or anything. I told her I had the same feeling. I will never forget this feeling of being watched like criminals or lairs.

The restaurant was promising. It is located on the main floor of the Novotel-Valence. When you walk in, the atmosphere is kinda mysterious with dim, yellow lights. We were seated fairly quickly but service kinda went downhill from there. Our table did not have salt & pepper and it took awhile to flag down our waiter for that and pretty much for the rest of the evening. The entrees we're very bland and flavourless, even with added salt. We ordered cappuccinos with our flambe dessert and that came out long after we got our dessert. The print on our cappuccino had basically dissolved by the time it was brought to us. A couple of patrons around us that seemed to be regulars of the restaurant also had trouble flagging down the waiter just to pay their bill. We had Continental breakfast the next morning and that was also very lack-luster. Mini waffles were thick & soggy, there were minimal fruit and low carb options. Their cappuccino machine was struggling to work and it was hard to find staff to help with anything. It just seemed like a very poorly...

Never again! I returned my meal due to it having brown avocado which was completely tastless and felt like it had been frozen and the rice was also undercooked. My 7yr old daughter commented on the poor quality of her 'Fish & Chips'. And she was right.

We had reserved a table outside but due to be bitten by mosquitoes, we asked to move inside. Our request was treated as though we asked for something extraordinary and were reluctantly moved to the bar area after my wife insisted that she cannot continue her meal outside.

The management is extremely poor. Not once did the manager approach us to discuss the returned meal or to check if we were comfortable at the bar. For all the good reviews I read, I was expecting much more. I cannot recommend...
