I’e been eyeing this place from across the street for a while. The reviews are great, it looks cozy and I was really excited to visit. Albeit not terrible, my experience here was, ultimately, disappointing.
The vibes are cozy, service was perfectly correct, and the flat white coffee was fine. Not the best, but certainly not the worst.
The biggest disappointment, though, and the main reason for the mixed review was the carrot cake. It was gluten free and vegan (I think and it was just not good, I left half and I am not the type of person who’d leave 0.5 peaces of cake on the plate). I have eaten good gluten free cakes, and this was just not it. The cream cheese frosting was nice, but the cake… Tasteless and bland with a mealy texture. There are plenty of other pastries to try, though, and I am sure you can find something you’d enjoy.
The 2 items, costing almost 10 euros, I expected more. I don’t mind paying these prices, if the quality reflects the price, but this time it was just...
Read moreNo laptops during the weekend. Which could be okay, but you can be “kick out” (or you can go outside as they say) by staff in one hour when you started work. “There was a sign on the door”, they say. But of course I didn’t notice it.
It ended up that the waitress was standing eagerly saying me that I need to go out right now which for me was difficult at the very moment (since there were some processes on my laptop that I couldn’t stop).
I would suggest to this place to think on it a bit, and 1)tell that information to people from the very beginning to be sure that they got it 2)if people didn’t see/know about it it’s not the best decision to tell they “you need to get out of here with your laptop”, but at least give them some time to finish their work or to say “please next time take it on your mind” (because mostly when people go to that place they live nearby, it’s not Rosenthaler Platz)
It was very disappointing for me. I won’t go...
Read moreI’m often in Berlin for work and family. Years ago, I happened upon Garcia Kaffeebar. As I walked in, they had just set out a fresh batch of cinnamon rolls that looked and smelled exactly like the ones I grew up with in New York. Of course, I ordered one (maybe two :-) right away. The cinnamon rolls were perfect, the accompanying coffee top-notch, a real delight.
Since then, no trip to Berlin feels complete without a stop at Garcia, and they never disappoint!
Consistently excellent coffee, friendly service, and high-quality baked goods and sandwiches. Currently, along with those wonderful cinnamon rolls, I’m hooked on the delectable little lemon tarts topped with perfect meringue. Recently, I learned that they operate their own bakery, which helps explain why their cakes, tarts, and treats all feel a notch above. I can’t wait to stop by the next time...
