I've been a regular for the last six months. Service is impressive: Not only are the staff well-trained, friendly, quick and helpful, they also are numerous enough. This deserves special mention, because none of these aspects, as a rule of thumb, can be taken for granted in Berlin. The Trattoria Toscana people are successfully going out of their way in order not to become guilty of committing the same mistake.
The atmosphere deserves almost equal praise. It is a big place, both inside and outside on the terrace, and is somewhere between traditional and fine dining. The tables are meticulously set and you get white table cloths and cloth napkins. Fantastically aromatic Mediterranean bread comes free, together with aceto balsamico and virgin olive oil.
Prices are a bit above average, but the price - performance ratio is very good in any case.
The only thing some people might find wanting and/or outdated is the menu. It is rather lopsided in the meat and fish direction. Lighter choices are almost impossible to find. There are no veggie options, not even a pesto, and even the usually reliably simple spaghetti alio, olio e peperoncini come with a double whammy of additional breadcrumbs. Salads, too, are, with one exception, variations with meat, seafood or cheese, and there is no fruit or sorbet choice in the dessert menu - all variations of cream, mascarpone, chocolate and ice cream.
I hasten to add that with the exception of a grilled sea bass that was a bit bland and strawy, everything I ate so far at the T.T. was delicious, carefully prepared and served swiftly and hot.
So although there is room for improvement there, because of the outstanding service and the friendly environment I would definitely recommend a visit, particularly if you are a group that wants to enjoy a...
Read moreThe rudest service I have experienced for long. The waiter was continuously on the phone while I was making the order. Doing things with one hand, and holding the phone with the other. So, I left him and went back for the food later. Then his mask was pulled down, pulled it up only when I pointed at it. He didn't show me the bill before the payment. After I paid I asked for it and he gave it to me. It had completely different items. So, I asked him to correct the bill, and asked back the change. To be fair, there was not much difference but after his behaviour I didn't want to leave any tip. He did it but then he started yelling at me, wished me bad luck and promised that they will not cook for me again. That actually means good luck, as the pizzas were greasy, oil dripping everywhere. Update: The owner asked me to correct my answer, but there is not much I can change. It might be of personal taste how much oil one likes on their pizza, on mine there was a lot, but maybe someone likes it that way. It might have come from a topping, I cannot recall any more. Anyhow, it was certainly not the reason that made me write the review and not the main rating factor. The reason was the rude service and offending comments from the staff members. Maybe they forgot about it or told to the owner that they do not remember, but I can ensure anyone that I do remember and it was this restaurant. There is no...
Read moreThe food is good and the one stars goes to this, but how can you enjoy your food when you are treated differently? The staffs are unbelievably rude, they brought 1 service of olive and bread at start (which is for two people at most), despite other tables. We ordered one small beer and one big beer, they brought us two small ones, the waiter just shook his hand and told us just drink it, which we ignored and laughed about it at first because it seemed that he is busy. After finishing our meal and waiving to him for like 10 minutes (and him constantly ignoring us and serving other tables) we finally had our bills, we even paid tips which most people do not do here, but he just got it and disappeared, Although the restaurant always offers the shot of espresso or liquor to its guests, I guess he just saw us different from other table and decided not to treat us the same, his behaviors was definitely biased. will never go...
