Taj | Indisches Restaurant — Restaurant in Cleves

I made an order for pickup and was told to arrive in 30 minutes. Once I arrived at the designated time, they said I would need to wait "a couple minutes", but I ended up waiting in the restaurant for 30 minutues. I suspect they just began cooking our entrees once I arrived. If I wanted to sit in the restaurant for so long, I would have eaten my meal at the restaurant.

To add insult to injury, the samosas were stale, obviously fried earlier in the day and reheated last minute. They were practically inedible and were served with a haphazard mess of sad-looking iceberg lettuce.

The rest of the food was ok, but a bit under average in quality. The paneer in the palak paneer was a bit styrofoam-like, lacking the pleasant texture one would expect. However, the spinach and spices were decent (though the spices were a little muted). The bombay alu was alright, though it was by no means "sehr scharf" as listed on the menu (in fact it might have been milder than the palak paneer), and it consisted of far more sauce than potatoes and peppers. It was a bit like eating a pile of tomato sauce spiced with garam masala and a few potato pieces thrown in, rather than a potato-centered entree.

Overall, the food was okay (besides the samosas), but it's significantly overpriced for the quality. The poor service also left a bad taste in my mouth, so all things considered I will not likely get food...

A particularly underwhelming visit. The young lady that served us was very polite and friendly. She was new to the restaurant but very knowledgable about the menu and particular dishes.

The restaurant was very quiet when we arrived with only 3 couples, not surprising given it was a Sunday evening. We thought this would make our meal pretty speedy as we just wanted something quick after a long weekend.

Unfortunately the starters took 30 minutes to arrive, and they were basic starters like soup that would have likely been pre-made. The mains took a further 45 minutes, and that was after most of the other customers had already finished and left.

The food wasn’t all that bad, full of flavour if not slightly watery. The portions were enough to stave off the growing hunger.

All in all the wait for our food and the slightly watery consistency left me disappointed. Given our superb experiences of the surrounding restaurants we won’t be returning any...

I had a very negative experience there. Neither the food is authentic nor the service matches the proper standard which a normal fine dining restaurant should have. I feel pity that they do this to non-Indians who get misguided about the Indian food. The quantity is so less in comparison to food served in other restaurants. I literally felt as if they are doing a favor in serving me. I will never recommend anyone to go to this restaurant. If you really wanna try some decent Indian food, I would recommend you to try it in some big cities like Düsseldorf or Köln. Lastly I think there’s some sorta discrimination towards students where they are not given proper service, I as a student really felt it. At the end, „NOT AT ALL VALUE FOR MONEY“!!
