Venga Kleve — Restaurant in Cleves

Sadly very poor. I write this review because I'm surprised at the attitude of the place. The vibe was lovely very similar to a place I used to work so I was happy to visit. I ordered a spaghetti dish and a slice of cake. The spaghetti was beautifully presented but swimming in water at the bottom. So okay no biggy. The cake had a dark firm hair with bulb in it. In my English way, I apologized profusely and said I don't want to eat the part with the hair in it and can I have the bill. The waiter took it away and said okay. I called him back a while later and said, so you will bring another or what and can I have the bill? It's over half the cake? By this point I was disappointed as I was waiting a long time and the bar only had a few other tables open. I waited half an hour more and my baby was now upset. I asked him if he could wrap it up so I could take away and to have later. He tutted and still hasn't brought the bill. He came back with the cake in the box and the bill. It came to 24 euros. I said are you sure? He says yes but have me no reciept. I looked at the menu as I was sure he was wrong. He had over charged me by 13 Euros! I was so embarrassed and angry by this point that I went to the bar and he agreed he charged me incorrectly. This time, he gave me the bill reciept. I said to the girl next to him. This was really bad service and the floor around the seating area was really unclean for 12 o'clock. She sniggered and that was it. The waiter held his cup of drink on the step of the bar looking over my head and said you have a nice day. I love Kleve and this rainy morning was a great excuse to try Venga. Don't! Filthy, con artist member of staff and no understanding of customer service. A good attitude and service is so important. Who knows how many if you have been overcharged and not given a book with the money going into staff pockets? Harri in cakes can happen you hope not! Returning to Venga is a pleasure. They continue to impress with a consistency most can only dream of.

From the offset the staff are friendly and welcoming. We’ve been a number of times and the staff welcome us back each time remembering we liked the raised tables (great for people watching 😉) and some particulars to follow.

The restaurant is comfortable with great decor. It has a modern feel with warmth. Surrounded big floor to ceiling windows you get the sense of openness but have the privacy for a close cuddle or conversation.

Now the food!!! The portions are by no means small so prepare yourself. It’s rare we don’t take a portion home, although we save some room for dessert, the chocolate soufflé will tickle your taste buds and leave a drooling smile on your face!

There’s a great selection on the menu, none of which hasn’t left my eyes any less excited than my mouth. It’s not overly sprinkled with pomp, just looks delicious and doesn’t fail to please.

Now back to the staff! We always order a soup to share as a starter. We don’t have to ask, the staff just smile, wink and say “With two spoons”. It’s that kind of thing that warms your cockles and invites you back!

Pay Venga a visit, I promise you’ll return. If you want to treat that someone special to a nice romantic meal or join some friends for a hearty greet with food, you’ll not be disappointed, and neither will...

TO AVOID !!! Despite food was nice, restaurant itself was run down, not clean and very dark. Service was the WORST ever with two most arrogant young ladies who would walk away while you were talking to them. We had to wait for our food and when we asked for a dessert, we were abruptly yelled that kitchen was closed. When we asked why they did not inform us in time, they most ungraciously screamed it was not not their job. We had them yo wait 15 minutes standing by the door for our bill…. Sure not the right way to stay...
