Darmstadt is home to a couple brewpubs, with the Darmstädter Privatbrauerei is very close to the main train station. Darmstädter's main brand is Braustüb'l beer, of which they offer several varieties, all nicely made and fine examples of their styles. The sprawling brewery occupies a 3-story white brick building with red trim. In their visitors room you can read about the history of the brewery, and large windows allow you to see their large stainless steel brewing vessels inside. It is a very large operation with wide distribution of their Braustüb'l brand. Just next door to the brewery is their Braustüb'l brewpub. It occupies a white concrete building with brick trim. Over the entrance is an arching wooden awning and their ornate sign with gold letters. Ascend a few stairs and inside is a spacious dining room with a bar and a variety of seating options. In the center is seating around an old copper brew kettle which is now decorative. The floor is ceramic tile and the walls are trimmed with wood and copper decorations. The bar on the right has 10 wooden stools, shelves of glassware, and a copper tap tower. Soft rock background music is playing, and the place has a nice family friendly atmosphere. They have six house beers on tap, and several more varieties in bottles. I was thrilled that they offered a sampler flight of their beers so I could try the variety. The original brewery was built closer to the rail line in 1847, but moved to this larger location in 1880. The brewery's traditional Braustüb'l brewpub here was reborn in 1999, and nicely carries on the tradition. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the aromas coming from the open kitchen are amazing. Their menu consists of appetizers, soup, salad, flammkuchen flatbreads, sandwiches, daily specials, and a wonderful mix of traditional and modern German cuisine. I recommend a visit for their delicious food and variety of...
Read moreUpdate: I reduce my rating to one! why? They recently hired a lawyer to write to google, claiming that the following review is violating their rights! and even saying: "If the applicant responds to you or us with his real name, we will immediately take action against him through civil legal proceedings with a legal warning." All that in German heavy Law language. I couldn't imagine they could go to this level of threatening me instead of apologizing for their mistake and improving their service. I had to prove that I have really been there! Good that I paid with card and I showed them the proof of payment! such a disappointment!
--- previous review -- The food was very dissappointing. The meat was not done and even the green beans were sort of not well cooked. The service was ok but they didn't have much flexibility. The ambient had a nice touch with the Hopf hanging at the ceiling. But the whole thing was loud and the personnel were stressed and running around. The beer was also not very special. All in all it was an...
Read moreThe food was great and the waitress was very friendly. Unfortunately the receptionist was unfriendly and interested in the wishrs of the customers. It was a hot day and we wanted to sit outside ( 1 table was free - I saw it) but she said it was full. Then I asked for a table in the room where there was fresh air coming in ( few tables were free) . She said there is a big group coming. We were there for 2 hours and no big group showed up. In the end there were many free tables outside and we asked to have a final quick beer outside. This was rejected without a reason given. It is sad to see that servers and kitchen staff are doing a great job but the higher-ups made us feel uncomfortable. As they say the fish stinks from the head. We ended up eating in a warm room with no windows, no fresh air.. Not a...
