Fratellis Downtown — Restaurant in Frankfurt

Firstly I would like to give the food a high rating , but the place is let down by rather sulky staff who were a touch off-hand. Location is in business district and within easy walk of our hotel. It looks bleak and tacky from outside in the ground floor of an office building, but it was nicely decorated and modern interior. We hadn’t booked on this Friday evening 8.30pm but had no trouble to get table for 3 people. I foolishly spoke Italian to the waiter when we came in, obviously not his language...A waitress took us to table then seems to go away without bothering to come back with menu for some time, and seemed annoyed when asked, as she had just finished serving some other table. Restaurant was not busy and waiter at the door was sorting cutlery or something, so they could be better organised when guests arrive. Food order then taken by an older waiter (owner?) and dishes were quick to arrive around 10minutes later. Spaghetti carbonara was excellent, one of the best I’ve eaten and I know Italian food well as vacation in Italy frequently for the last 20years. My friend said pizza was OK reasonable, it looked nice but base a bit thick I think. We paid cash and they automatically assumed to round up all the change as a tip, slight misunderstanding from my friends point of view, and they even showed all the change as “tip” on the receipt! Our waitress was efficient but not very smiling, to me it seemed we were the only table that she didn’t care to smile to! So, overall the food was very nice, the service efficient, but not such a friendly ambiance as far as we were...

I was in the restaurant 2 weeks ago with a group of colleagues and most of us agreed it was a terrible experience. First they took us for idiots when they just offered us the menu of specials with the most expensive dishes, when we asked for the regular menu they made everything possible for not providing it, so we had to order from the specials. 6 of us ordered rib eye steak, when they placed the dish in front of me the meat was smelly, like when it's passed 2 days. We tried to eat it but most of us could not so the dishes were returned to the kitchen half way eaten. I'm talking about a dish that costs 33 €. The compensation we received was an invitation to the dessert for those who wanted which in my opinion it was not good enough. They should have changed our dishes for something else. Like I said terrible experience on top of ripping us off...

We ordered 5 dishes:

1. Penne all arrabbiata mit peperocini
2. Insalata Tonno (Gemischter Salat mit Thunfisch & Ei)
3. Lasagne mit Rinderhackfleisch
4. Tagliatelle Al Salmone mit Lachs
5. Spaghetti Cacio & Pepe

I had dish 1) and my colleagues ordered the remaining ones.

I extremely liked it, Initially I thought I might have to order one more dish because the quantity looked less. But as I got onto devouring it, I felt so full by the end. I generally have a good appetite always and tend to eat a lot so it would be safe if you trust my words as I say - quantity for the price was good for one person.
