Juraj Palace — Restaurant in Grafing

What can I say? I've been here 5 times in the last 3 years. The service is excellent. As I come from Britain and spoke to the boss a couple of years ago,he gave me a tip on how to get the meal I want. I have to say it was one of the best "curries" I've had in ages! Nothing to do with being mind-blowingingly hot...heaven forbid! For some reason the Indian restaurants in Germany feel the need to smother all their tastes in cream and yoghurt. Germans hate their tongues being tested by new "hot" spices. I seriously can't count the number of times I've heard the lame excuse "it's for the German market" from waiters...but always afterwards, after they take the money. I've made curries for over 40 years now and I've got most recipe books from the 1950s to about 2010. I KNOW what makes a good curry and very often I make a really good one myself. Juraj are in a very good position to create authentic "Indian" meals. I KNOW they can do it because I've tasted it. It's a shame they can be so good on one day and so mediocre on another. Let me be honest here. Juraj is vastly better than many Munich restaurants I've tried, specially because of the owner and his son. Service is excellent, needs to be backed up with authentic Indian food, not something somebody once told someone that "this is what Germans like" Yes, you earn money that way, but you've not done the centuries old traditions of Indian cuisine any favours whatsoever! Why spoil something so good? Before the traditions are swallowed up beyond recognition for ever, please let me say... Dal Makhani Bindhi Buhna Murgh Masalam Jingha Biryani

Vorausszuschicken ist, dass die Betreiber sehr freundlich sind, die Einrichtung eigentlich ganz schön ist, der Laden am unteren Marktplatz an dem Platz des ehemaligen Canape-Biergartens sehr schön liegt und ich den Hut ziehe davor, in solchen Zeiten ein Restaurant zu eröffnen. Wir haben bisher 3x was zum Mitnehmen bestellt. Beim ersten Mal waren wir eher enttäuscht, was aber vielleicht daran lag, dass es einer der ersten Öffnungstage war, und das Team und die Abläufe noch nicht perfekt abgestimmt waren. Außerdem war es recht "eindimensional" gewürzt und satt bin ich auch nicht geworden. Wir wollten vor ca. 3 Wochen nochmal bestellt, um dem Ganzen nochmal eine Chance zu geben. Es hat sich gelohnt und wir waren sehr begeistert. Das Essen war sehr lecker und gut gewürzt und die Menge ausreichend. Gestern haben wir nach der letzten sehr guten Erfahrung nochmals bestellt und waren wieder ziemlich enttäuscht. Geschmack leider nicht so vielschichtig, wie man es sich von indischem Essen erwartet. Fazit: 3x Butter Chichen, 3x völlig unterschiedlicher Geschmack und Aussehen. Schade, weil ich gerne das neue Restaurant mit dessen freundlichen Betreibern gerne uneingeschränkt empfehlen würde. Great little Indian restaurant that surprised us with its taste and service. The person running the place was very friendly and made the entire experience that much better. The food wasn’t too heavy and tasted surprisingly better than we expected … especially after spending a month in India!

Definitely stopping here again on our next visit...
