Stayed here in Sept of 2016 while in the Black Forest. Pleasant little hotel in the center of town. Rooms were simple and inexpensive with views of the surrounding rolling hills. Our bathroom was huge with a large open shower. We're used to staying in bigger, chain hotels, so this little hotel in the country was very charming to us. We don't speak German, but the staff spoke enough English to be helpful & the language barrier kind of added to the charm, as we knew we were really in the middle of the Black Forest (or Schwarzwald). There was free parking behind the hotel where we parked our car. The restaurant served simple traditional Bavarian favorites & was a popular place to be each evening when may locals came here to eat. We enjoyed roasted beef & Black Forest ham with horseradish, kraut & apple strudel for dessert with some good German wines. Overall it was a very charming, simple, traditional hotel in a very small, charming town. It wasn't a 5 star luxury hotel, but we enjoyed the small town setting & the local friendliness...

Read moreThis hotel, in a village in the midst of delightful countryside, makes an excellent base for visiting this part of the Black Forest. The staff are efficient and friendly, and rooms are bright and comfortable, some with a balcony overlooking the former abbey. The breakfast buffet is quite adequate, and the restaurant (large terrace) has a good menu. Also in the small square is an excellent café (Kaffee und Kuchen!) with very friendly staff and outside tables. ||When checking in, you receive a card which gives you free travel on buses and trains in the region. Fairly frequent buses take you to the nearest railway station (at the moment Denzlingen, as Kirchzarten is temporarily closed for major works on the line). From there, trains will get you to Freiburg in about 10 minutes. This is an old university town with a wonderful market (mornings) around the cathedral. ||If you like the Black Forest, or want to discover it, this is your...
