Schupi is local to me and kind of dear to my heart as it's one of the only places we used to go eat during COVID. So it makes me sad to write a mediocre review.
Positives: the location. The Biergarten really is amazing, beautiful place to drink a beer under the trees and enjoy the sun or shade. One of the best local beer gardens in terms of location that I know of. The beer is also pretty great. And the staff are friendly and helpful!
Negatives: the food. I first discovered this place during covid, the food was excellent. Big portions, very extensive menu and everything homemade-seeming and tasting. You could guarantee that whatever you got it would be good. Now, the portions are on the small side (you will get literally twice as much for the same money elsewhere in Karlsruhe), half of the menu has disappeared, and the quality has dropped massively. What was really good quality home-made badish cuisine has become generic, boring food. The schnitzel is mediocre (I wouldn't be surprised if the breading wasn't homemade), the Maultaschen went from being excellent to being just ok. Combine this with a price increase of 15% and reducing the menu size and the portion sizes by half, and I find it really hard to recommend this place any longer.
Finally, the service. The staff are helpful and friendly enough, but there are just far far too few of them! Everyone is rushed off their feet. Last time it took literally half an hour to even get a menu, and our food was an hour after that. I realise that no individual staff member is responsible for this, but rather the management who aren't able to hire, probably not paying a competitive wage.
I realise that this is a hard time for restaurants, but there are several other beer-gardens within 5 or 10 minutes of this place who have better prices, better food and better service. The location is slightly less nice than here, but honestly im only ready to put with so much to sit under...
Read moreI feel bad giving this place a bad review, because it was otherwise fine. The service was good, the hotel was quick to respond and very helpful when I had to email them before my stay, and the room was nice and clean. However, the whole point of a hotel is to have somewhere to sleep, and I barely got any. My room had a window facing a fairly busy road, and the window did barely anything to keep the noise level down. It's also next to some train tracks, and while there weren't many trains, they were loud when they did pass by. The curtains are not blackout, which I think should be standard. I was woken up by the bright light very early in the morning and could not get back to sleep. You could also hear people in the other rooms, when they showered or flushed the toilet, and could hear them walking around. Perhaps I just had a bad room (number 27) but I would not risk staying here again. I did like that the windows could fully open, so it was easy to properly ventilate the room (a must in...
