Hohes Haus — Restaurant in Krummhörn

With some attention the Hohes Haus could be a four 4 Star hotel.||||We went there to get away from the hustle and bustle of christmas. The Hohes Haus is old: In 1696 it was a kind of finance office and since 1867 it's been a hotel. A neighbouring house was included In 1908. ||||The hotel is right in the centre of town, but quiet with some picturesque views: A top location.||||Our room was in the 'new' house. As in many houses which are converted to hotel use the rooms are cobbled together to maximise the number of rooms. The up side of this is that they are all different, most having wooden beams and old but charming furniture. One can make coffee and tea in the room, a feature not standard in Germany. The half-litre mineral water bottles in the rooms cost 2,20 Euros. The tap water is excellent and free! ||||The service staff are competent but not meticulous. This might be an unfair niggle: It shouldn't put you off. It’s just odd corners that don’t get enough attention.||||Rooms are bookable in three price categories depending on size. Ours was the smallest. The extra 20 Euros for a bigger room, with a double bed rather than two singles, didn't seem worth it. ||||After unloading your car you can park it in a hotel car park five minutes walk away.||||Since the weather was dismal we would have appreciated a common lounge to read or chat in. There isn’t one.||||The breakfast is excellent and the ambience in the breakfast room warm and cosy. The restaurant is very good. But here’s a tip: Eat at the Witches. It has the same proprietor but the food is better, possibly a tick cheaper and the table presentation is more elegant.||||Greetsiel lives almost exclusively from tourism. Every second building is a restaurant or a shop. However, there’s no beach, no plastic buckets and spades. The cuisine in the restaurants is excellent and the shops mostly of the arty crafty kind. Wir waren im Herbst mit insgesamt 6 Personen in 3 Doppelzimmern im Hohen Haus, das wir schon aus vielen Aufenthalten in Greetsiel kannten. Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen und erhielten 3 sehr unterschiedlich große und ausgestattete Zimmer.Während 2 der Zimmer relativ groß waren und eine Couch und entsprechende Sitzmöglichkeiten enthielten, war unser Zimmer zum selben Preis deutlich kleiner und mit kleinen Sesselchen und einem Holzhocker als Tisch ausgestattet. Das Zimmer war sauber und die Einrichtung gepflegt, aber deutlich in die Jahre gekommen und zusammengewürfelt. Das Badezimmer war allerdings recht neu und gut ausgestattet! Am ersten Morgen wurden wir dann schon gegen 6h durch lautes Türenschlagen und laute Unterhaltungen Hotelbediensteter und Lieferanten(?) unterhalb unseres Zimmers geweckt. Das Frühstück im Hotel und die Auswahl waren eher durchschnittlich und Croissants wurden, wie andere Sachen auch , nur auf Nachfrage aufgefüllt. Die Qualität der Speisen war gut. Allerdings fanden wir es sehr unhygienisch, dass die Bedienung beim Abräumen das benutzte Besteck in die Brotkörbchen warf, in denen man sich Brötchen etc. vom Buffet holen konnte und die nicht spülmaschinenfest waren, also nicht entsprechend gereinigt werden konnten. Hinzu kam die Tatsache, dass wir am ersten Tag an einem viel zu kleinen Tisch saßen, an dem sich die anderen Gäste eng und ohne entsprechenden hygienischen Abstand vorbeiquetschen mussten , während andere Gäste zu viert wesentlich größere Tische zugewiesen bekamen. Wir haben uns an diesem Tisch sehr unwohl gefühlt zumal wir auch wirklich recht eng beieinander saßen. Das Abendessen im Restaurant war dann sehr gut und lecker und die Bedienung sehr aufmerksam, ebenso wie die nette Dame aus der Bar, die uns schon aus einem anderen Lokal bekannt war. Zusammenfassend würde ich den Hotelaufenthalt gemessen an anderen im Ort ansässigen Hotels als ob bezeichnen.Den Restauranbesuch am Abend allerdings eindeutig als gut bewerten und das Restaurant auch...
