Landhaus Zimmermann — Restaurant in Rhein-Mosel

This was our first stop in Germany on a German road trip. The hotel is situated at the edge of Alken, with the Moselle flowing by in front of it and a vineyard stretching up into the hills behind it - a quiet and pretty setting. We received a very friendly welcome and was shown our room (Room 3). The room was a good size, clean, tidy and well equipped. In fact it was quite beautiful in many ways, with a homely feeling and a thoughtful attention to detail. We dined in the restaurant below that evening and had an excellent meal. The service was very good and the restaurant, like the rooms, was very pretty with lots of interesting detail. The hotel / restaurant didn’t serve breakfast but we were given a great recommendation for a cafe a few doors along. In summary, this was a first rate location and thoroughly recommended. Etwas verwirrt hat uns, dass das Restaurant seit seiner Gründung (mehrfach!?) den Namen gewechselt haben muss. Dass es uns von einem früheren Besuch unter anderem Namen bekannt war, tat der vorgefundenen Qualität allerdings keinen Abbruch: ein wunderschönes Restaurant, das in einem zauberhaften Fachwerkhaus beheimatet ist. Die Speisekarte ist angenehm überschaubar und folgt weitestgehend dem Motto der 'gutbürgerlichen Küche' (nicht so überfrachtet mit verschiedenen Stilen und Gerichten, wie man das häufiger mal vorfindet...). Das Ambiente ist liebevoll-rustikal; insbesondere in der Adventszeit (wie wir es vorgefunden haben); der überschaubare Platz wird effizient ausgenutzt ohne überfrachtet zu sein, die Bedienung ist allseits freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen war durchweg frisch zubereitet und wirkte einerseits wie aus der heimischen Küche 'bekannt', jedoch mit besonderer Note. Die Portionen sind fair bis groß; das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt hier in jedem Fall! Vorsicht geboten ist sicher für stark gehbehinderte Menschen: das alte Fachwerk bietet wenig Möglichkeiten für Barrierefreiheit - vielmehr bedarf der Gang zur Herrentoilette eines sicheren Standes und belastbarer Knie, da die entsprechenden Räumlichkeiten 'auf halber Treppe' untergebracht sind (wie das in sehr alten Häusern eben oftmals ist...). Unterm Strich: wer gut zu Fuß ist (oder das Lokal im Sommer besucht, wenn die Terrasse zur Mosel genutzt werden kann) findet hier ein sehr gemütliches, authentisch 'uriges' Mosellokal vor, wo man für einen fairen Preis ein hochwertiges, mit an Sicherheit grenzender Wahrscheinlichkeit ein sättigendes Essen bekommt - auf jeden Fall eine Reise wert (ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass aufgrund der überschaubaren Gesamtgröße eine Reservierung sinnvoll ist, auch, wenn wir spontan Glück hatten und einen Tisch für zwei bekamen)! Einziger Kritikpunkt bzw. Verbesserungsvorschlag: 1-2 weitere vegetarische Gerichte würden der Karte gut tun, da sich (wenn ich nichts übersehen habe) nur ein fleisch- und fischfreies Gericht auf der Karte befand.
