17 Apr oof, where to start... Fate drove me to Gustaggio. Since I hit the character limit I have to cut out the story, but know that after three revelations I couldn't deny fate any further.
Between the three of us, we had a margarita pizza, a custom pizza, pasta aglio e’ olio, and the parmesan pasta. I must apologize for forgetting to get pictures of their food, and nothing's worse than taking a picture when the dish is half eaten, so I forgoed it entirely.
I usually begin my reviews with what I liked before getting to my uncensored, candid, and critical review; today I'll begin with that instead. The parmesan pasta was a 2/5, which for me means that it wasn't enjoyable and if I had stricter discipline I would've stopped at half way instead of finishing it. I was overwhelmed by how disapointing it was. Starting from the minor infractions, pepper was sprinkled on top. However, in the massive mountain of pasta, once I was past the first layer the pepper was sorely missed. There wasn't any truffle oil and I find shaved black truffle to be very lacking in flavor. So there was no dimensionality to the pasta, it was just parmesan. Finally, the parmesan was clumpy and quick to solidify. The globs of parmesan were not appealing, to say the least. I admit that it's partially my fault, perhaps I took too long to eat the pasta since I had two slices of pizza in between. Also, it's a right mountain of pasta, so it takes a while to get though, however, I do respect large portions. The pasta itself was good, and the little parm crisp they put on top took me back to a delightful childhood memory when I would make cheese crisps on the outside of my quesodillas. I so badly wanted this dish to be good and tried to give it as much leeway as possible. Now I'm stuck in the awkward position of telling my friends that I didn't like their favorite dish, not that they would care anyway I guess.
A final note on the pastas, the pasta aglio e’ olio was very decent which means a lot since I usually find that style of pasta very underwhelming in flavor. I'd give it a 4/5 and was a bit jealous that it was better than the parmesan pasta.
On to the pizzas, from the bottom up. The base was properly crispy, however, the outer ends of the crust was lacking in... something. It was too dense, I prefer larger air bubbles in the crust, it adds a certain dimension that seems counter intuitive. Fun fact, airated chocolate usually tastes better as well. I must now admit the ignorant parts of my palate, I don't find tomato sauce to vary wildly, so all I can say is that it was good. The cheese was either a hit or miss. On the margarita pizza it was good, however, in the custom pizza they laid it on too thick so it didn't properly melt. The first thought that came to mind was how I felt like I was biting into a Kraft cheese stick. The custom toppings were artichoke, mushrooms, and pancetta which I found to be absolutely perfectly done. There was a springy bite to the vegetables and a crispiness to the meat. Sadly, the rest of the pizza wasn't all there, so I have to give it a 3/5.
oof again, my reviews somehow keep getting longer and longer. If you've stuck with me so far then I appreciate your tenacity. Of course I ordered the tiramisu (how can you not 😌). Usually, no matter how full I am, I ALWAYS have room for tiramisu. However, this one felt like a kick to the kidney when I was already down and I left it half eaten. I didn't fancy the cream much, I don't quite know why but it was homemade. There was a bland and too soft cake that replaced the lady fingers, no coffee at all, and a store bought fudge syrup that had no need to be there and actually detracted from the experience. 2/5.
It was a wild ride, there was so much fluctuation in the quality and in the emotions I experienced that I needed a therapy session with my friend Ines before I could write this review. My final rating is, "I'd be willing to go back with friends to try other pastas but I don't plan on going back of my own accord. I suppose if I lived next door I would give it...
Read moreI went for dinner, it wasn't busy. I ordered my food and a drink. Got my drink and then my food. I ordered a second drink, watched the bartender make it, and place it on the bar. I was just waiting for the waiter to bring me the drink. I then saw the bartender remove my drink from the bar and go make some drinks... I thought maybe he was remaking it, I don't know. He made the drinks for the table next to me, and still, my drink was nowhere to be found. I waited, then asked for the check, which had 2 mojitos. I told the waiter I only received 1 drink. He walked over to the bar and started asking the bartender because he placed the order. The girl waiter walked over, and the owner walked over, and all of a sudden, the bartender pulled my drink up from behind the bar..... it was very awkward, and it makes me wonder why this happened? Did he not like me? Did he not want to serve me? Simple mistake? But what did he do to the drink? I won't ever know because I will not be coming back. What was supposed to be a nice dinner experience ended very awkward and having me ask...
Read moreAn excellent restaurant with incredibly cozy ambient, I could easily stay there for a couple of hours. The staff is also quite helpful and gentle, and even though I noticed a few of the newer staff members making mistakes, it was still a pleasant experience. The dinning area even allows a view to the kitchen and stone oven, which lets guests watch the cooks prepare their food if they want to.
The food has so far been a solid, good experience. Even if the plates appear to be a little expensive when you see the menu, you'll notice that they are relatively big portions of food. If you eat here, you'll come out absolutely full, bringing a friend to share is highly recomended! Otherwise you can just request to take the leftovers with you back home for later.
I will definitelly...
