Hotel & Gasthaus Engel — Restaurant in Vereinbarte Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Rastatt

If possible, I would have rated the Hotel good. It is a bit above average but not very good. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. The sleep quality suffers from the noise both at the front and back of the Hotel. We had three rooms. One in the front, which had noise from the outside dining area of the Hotel restaurant until about mid-night. The back rooms were disturbed by a party by neighbors not associated with the Hotel until way past 2am. Can't really recomend any specific location in the Hotel that would be quieter.||||There is no elevator and the corridors and doors are rather narrow and steep, so it may be difficult to get your luggage to the room for the elderly. They have a parking garage which is safe and convenient. It is however German style with narrow parking spots and tight, narrow turns. You have to be careful not to scratch up you rental car. We were "upgraded" to a Volvo SUV by the car rental company and it was challenging getting in and out. The garage itself is clean and convenient and directly under and next to the Hotel.||||The restaurant is good, not great and a bit pricey. The menu is typical for the region. There is inside and outside seating with decent service. The owner manager is friendly. The breakfast is ok ,typical German breakfast with rolls, cereal, cold cuts, ham, yoghurt, etc. The staff is a bit slow refreshing the table and is putting out only a few slices of the cold cuts at a time. I guess that reduces waste and/ or costs.||||There is no air conditioning. Most of the time that is not a problem, but during the occasional 90+ F degree day and hot night that may be a problem. We stayed at the Hotel Engel for one night during our bike tour along the river rhein. The location of the hotel is good and right in the center which made it good for sightseeing and eating out. Th hotel looks good from the outside and the room was spacious and clean. The service was poor as the greeting was unfriendly and to be honest the man at the reception although helpful wasnt friendly and didnt seem to care about making us feel welcome and didnt even care to tell us what time breakfast was! The room had comfy beds and a nice bathroom but smelled of smoke which was not particularly pleasant. As mentioned the beds were ok and we slept well. The breakfast was tasty and despite the poor customer service the range of food was good and we ate well. The breakfast room itself is on the ground floor backing onto the road. The noise from the traffic and activity outside was unbearably loud and quiet irritating during what should have been a quite relaxing holiday breakfast.||||To be perfectly honest I would not recomment this hotel as it is over priced and the staff rude. The hotel has a 2 star german rating but in comparison to the other hotels we stayed in it was overpriced and had we spent longer searching for accommodation I believe we would have easily found a more friendly, fair...
