Café am See — Restaurant in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Schluchsee

Bad food! Dirty tables! Bad service! And, to top it all, you cannot pay by card and they won't tell you this when you sit down!

I don't think there's a worse place in all the Black Forest! The apple strudel (Apfelstrudel) was made of a soggy crust and a filling of old apples with a sugar jelly, and the coffee was little more than a bad tea. Underneath the pile (yes, pile!) of ice cream and whipped cream - I had better ice cream 30 years ago under a communist regime! - that accompanied the Apfelstrudel, there was a wafer that became disgustingly soggy with the ice cream melting on top of it. I don't know how the whipped cream was because it was already liquid when they brought me the plate. Hours after leaving I still felt the aftermath of that Apfelstrudel and that coffee.

It is also hard to understate the boredom of the two waiters, the negligence of their outfits and the attitude close to spite that they had. Even with two waiters, plenty of tables were uncleaned at all times and full of plates and food from previous customers (a treat for birds, really), stained with grease, and filled ashtrays were everywhere, on the tables and on the ground(!). We asked for the bill and after waiting for more than 10 minutes, we decided to go inside and pay. But the ordeal was far from over!

We could not pay by card, and we were not told this before we sat down, probably in a dishonest attempt to have us stay and order. At the end, one of us had to walk across town to and ATM so that we can pay. FYI, the trip there and back is about 20 minutes, just in case you find yourself in a similar situation...

All in all, it was the worst experience we had that day! To avoid...

If you are looking to eat cake this place is it! The Black forest cake is out of this world! The slice was enormous and absolutely delicious! They had a large selection of other cakes - apple strudel, cheese cake (two types) and various others. The restaurant itself (decor and ambience) is nothing to write home about, but the service from the young waitress was extremely accommodating and friendly. Our dog got a bowl of water and was offered a treat and there is a spacious sun terrace with view...

Nice place to sit down after an activity both inside (enough spots) and outside (on a warm day probably hard to get a table). Tip: go sit on the grass with a nice blanket/sheet and enjoy the view.

Food is good and drinks are cold (even the glass which they put in the freezer).

Employees are nice, sometimes it looked like it could be more efficient how they process the order especially when it gets busy.

Overall good, payment both in cash and by card (from €5 on / status 31st...
