We stayed in Spartia, which as a small village only has 3 restaurants. We'd been in the other 2 for an evening meal, so tried Waterway for our Saturday night dinner. It's a steep walk from the village, about 1.8km, which isn't a problem for us but may be a bit uncomfortable for some for the return. On arrival we were seated on the middle terrace with amazing views of the sea, surrounding cliffs and Zante island across the water. The menu was the most expensive of the 3 restaurants, but figured that was due to the location and views. We ordered the chicken in tarragon and the red mullet. House wine was delicious. When our food arrived, the fries with the chicken was lukewarm, and the mullet was 2 small fish with no sides. Upon service we were set upon by stray cats and wasps, which didn't really enhance the experience. (We noted that those seated on the lower terrace all had anti- insect candles smoking away, we weren't offered any, neither were the other couple seated around us on the middle terrace.) I enquired whether I could have some fries or veg to accompany my meal, for the price (28€) I thought i would get more than 2 small fish. Apologies were made, apparently it was meant to come with a salad and fries but they'd been left on the pass. The fries were also nearly fully cold by this time. The seats were a wicker style, not the most comfortable to sit on, and only when we saw another guest collect some cushions from a basket did we realise that a more comfortable option was available. Nobody told us or offered us a cushion. All in all, a mediocre meal with the highest price of all 3 restaurants in the village, and the worst service. Great view, wasps and cats annoying....
Read moreDo not eat here. Booked a table 6hrs in advance, arrived with my family, place was empty and after asking 3 different members of staff they finally sat us down. After 15 minutes of waiting we had to ask to order drinks, the waitress struggled to understand what we wanted even thought it was 3 beers, glass of red wine and 2 cocktails that never appeared. The owner tried to sell us fresh fish of the day at an extortionate rate (£80 per kilo but he was willing to lower it to £70 lol) bearing in mind we all live in Cornwall and one of us is a chef so we know this is disgusting wherever you are-even Dubai do not charge this much for Red mullet. When we were ready to order we still had to hasten the cocktails that after further 15 mins still had yet to appear. The main waiter started to take our order then wandered off to check what they had in the kitchen, he also had no idea how to operate the iPad, so this was confusing. He seemed like he was trying to convince us what he wanted us to have. When one of our party asked for the Pork fillet with chips and a salad, he got confused and couldn’t understand that we were willing to pay extra for an extra side. The last straw was when he started talking to another table behind us that walked in whilst we were giving our order. The service was disgusting from...
Read moreDespite being warned of previous poor reviews we decide to give the Waterway a try. We booked a table for 3. We were hoping to enjoy the evening with beautiful views of the sea and coastline. On arrival we were shown to our table bearing the table was 3 adults one of the chairs was fitted with a child seat which was smeared with what we hoped was chocolate as was the seat it was fixed to. The waitress seemed distracted and didn’t seem to notice the obvious mess. When our drinks were delivered the glasses were smeared with one having lipstick on the rim. The food was edible but nothing special. The main disappointment was the lack of atmosphere and staff attitude. There no warm welcome and very little interest shown by staff. The location of the restaurant is great but the premises do not live up to the impressive location. The place is very run down and in need of a complete refurbishment. It is also overrun with cats. We are cat lovers but at one point we were surrounded by 5 cats with a couple fighting under the table. The staffs response to occasionally come and spray them with water pistols. Not the experience we had hoped for Not...
