We have become regulars at this lovely family restaurant, because of the very tasty and consistently good food. Adonis and his father are friendly and their service sharp and attentive, while “mama” puts most chefs in the restaurants we have visited across 16 islands and mainland Greece in our one and a half year’s travels to shame. Her mousaka is the best we have ever had and with this as our benchmark, the closest was an 8/10 at a very expensive and touristy sidewalk restaurant in Athens. At restaurant Nikolas you overlook the quaint little harbour in Plataria and the sun setting towards Corfu in the distance, while sitting at traditionally blue and white checkered tables under a big tree. Try the delicious “biftekia” (home-made beef burger meat patties), or the crisp and very tasty pork schnitzel (is it white pepper adding the flavour?) and the fresh bread with her lovely tzatziki (another benchmark for us) and if it is not the best or some of the best you have ever tasted, I will gladly eat my hat (with some of the tzatziki). The prices, like the food and service, are unpretentious. The menu diversity is, like the restaurant, unapologetically smaller than the louder and more impersonal, seasonal traps spread around the lovely bay, but everything here will be fresh and tasty every time; so apart from standard choices like pork steak and schnitzel, or the homemade beef burger, don’t expect mousaka every dinner. It is freshly made once or thrice a week and be warned:...
Read moreFirstly, this is a genuine family run business, and they work really hard to please clients. The son in particular was very helpful - and steered us away from the beef, which he said would be tough (very honest at least!). There wasn’t anything bad about the food - the pork steak was very good and the lamb chops were also good - although not much meat on them. Grilled prawns were nice, but could have been part peeled and cleaned (had to remove the digestive tract from all of them). The tzatziki wasn’t to our taste - needed more cucumber and garlic for us. We also found the menu to be quite small - not a massive issue, but if you have a small menu then everything needs to be amazing. Homemade chips were very nice. Could be much better with a few tweaks....
Read moreExcellent food and very friendly staff who will happily give you great recommendations based on your taste! We tried the Feta with Honey in a brick paste as well as the fresh codfish fried - amazing! We also had the tomato balls and marinated anchovies. I wish I could go back there but it was our last restaurant of the holidays and certainly the BEST one. Don’t miss out this opportunity for really FRESH and delicious greek traditional food! Enjoy and please feed the...
