Such a lovely tavern, with wonderfully delicious food, friendly staff who speaks English very well, and a beautiful garden filled with flowers, plus tables with great seaview. We went here twice and the prices are really decent. The lady that greeted us gave us upfront the details of the day's special dishes. You really must go and eat here, even if it's not close to where you're located. Believe me, the trip will be worth it! To be honest - after 2 weeks on the island - for us it was the best restaurant, with the tastiest food. Let me go into more details: - For starters, I tried Grandma's mushrooms and what a good choice it was! Their tomato sauce with onions & garlic was delicious. Next was the shrimp saganaki, which was also amazingly delicious! One note here: as you'll see from the pictures, they're not small shrimps but the larger prawns. And my girlfriend tried the aubergine saganaki. It was very good but a bit too oily. She also tried the Farmer's salad. It was good, with fresh ingredients, only it had lots of cabbage and very little lettuce. Some arugula would have been really nice. The second time we came here I tried the baked feta... it was the best baked feta on the island! And my girlfriend tried the Afrodisiac salad this time, which we both agreed was tastier than the Farmer's salad. Its honey vinaigrette dressing was so delicious, it had lots of lettuce and pomegranate seeds. Really, really good! - For the mains, one of the day's special was the Mousaka, a dish which I really like... and it was very good. I did have tastier Mousakas but not on this island :) It was in Crete. You have to understand we've been on quite a few greek islands and tried many Mousakas, plus it's a dish my mother and my girlfriend's mother prepare, so I have a lot of examples to compare with :) This one was certainly better than in other places in Kefalonia. Last but surely not least, we had a grilled fresh sea bass, which was wild (not from the farm!). It was properly cooked, not dry at all and simply delicious! - For dessert, we just had to try the homemade cheesecake. It was absolutely delicious, with a well balanced taste that wasn't too sweet. And my girlfriend says that it was probably not baked in the oven. But the second time we went we also tried the homemade orange pie with ice cream. What a deliciously light desert it was! By far the best orange pie I ever ate in the entire Greece! Not too sweet but instead smooth and easy to going. We both loved it! And I also did get the freshly squeezed orange juice, which had no ice cubes (hurray! because I don't want them) and the oranges were from the fridge so it had just the right temperature.

Very mixed feelings. Pros: place is really beautiful - with all the view, flowers etc. Owner and her granddaughter are lovely. Cons: food is just ok. I had vegetarian moussaka prepared as special request- it was really nice about the place. But moussaka was just ok, full of bread inside (???). My partner meat was ok. Dip trio with pita - dip are really small portions, we didn't expect mostly pita and french fries instead of dips for 6 euros. But the worst thing... THE CATS. I am animal lover, I love cats and it was heart breaking. There were so many cats and so hungry they even ate the bread and french fries! I would thought that such lovely people who want to create idyllic Tavern should care about animals living there. Feed them but also take care about sterilization- there were so many kittens. We stayed close to Captain Nicholaos and when reading reviews we thought we would eat there every evening but after first evening-the cats and how they treat them was the main reason we decided to never come back to the place and to dine in Lixouri.

We had a wonderful experience at this place and highly recommend it. The atmosphere created by beautiful pink flower trees surrounding the tables was enough to make the visit worth it. The people serving and cooking for us were all part of one family. The waiter was very cheerful, energetic, and kind, which made the dining experience so much better. When she noticed our table had a slight wobble she quickly fixed it. Although there was some miscommunication and one of the dishes we ordered was missing, they were very quick to fix this and pleasent throughout the whole situation. The food was very delicious and a free starter is always a great bonus. I recommend ordering the dolmakadia in lemon sauce from the apetizers as it was one of the best dishes I had during our trip to Greece. The chicken souvlaki was also well prepared and the portion sizes were good value for their price. The place is also very child friendly with a dedicated play area for those with small kids.

Nestled by the tranquil shores of Kefalonia, Captin Nikolas is a hidden gem that offers a dining experience like no other. My recent visit to this charming seaside restaurant left me enchanted by its breathtaking location, delectable cuisine, and warm Greek hospitality. Here's why Captin Nikolas stands out as a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the island of Kefalonia:

Location: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Situated right by the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea, Captin Nikolas boasts one of the most picturesque settings on the island. As I sat at my table, I was treated to uninterrupted views of the azure sea, and the gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore created a soothing soundtrack for my meal. Whether you visit during the day to bask in the Mediterranean sun or dine under the starlit sky at night, the location alone is worth the journey.

Ambiance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The restaurant's design complements its seaside location perfectly. Rustic wooden tables adorned and comfortable chairs invite you to relax and savor the moment. Soft, ambient lighting adds to the romantic atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a romantic dinner, a family gathering, or a peaceful solo retreat.

Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The staff at Captin Nikolas exuded Greek hospitality at its finest. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and genuine friendliness. The waitstaff were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, happy to provide recommendations and cater to dietary preferences. Their passion for their work and the restaurant's mission was palpable and added to the overall charm of the dining experience.

Cuisine: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Captin Nikolas specializes in traditional Greek cuisine with a modern twist, and the menu did not disappoint. The dishes were a celebration of fresh, local ingredients, expertly prepared to highlight the rich flavors of the region. Here are some standout dishes from my visit:

• Fresh Seafood: Being by the sea, it's no surprise that the seafood is exceptional. I savored the Sea bass, a medley of perfectly grilled bass and Chips, accompanied by a zesty lemon. The flavors were a true representation of the Mediterranean.

• Greek Classics: The restaurant also excels in serving classic Greek dishes like Greek salad, which was a harmonious blend of Feta, Salad and aromatic herbs.

• Desserts: Don't forget to save room for dessert! Marias Cheescake was a sweet ending to my meal, that left me craving for more.

Overall Experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Captin Nikolas in Kefalonia is not just a restaurant; it's an experience that captures the essence of Greek cuisine and the beauty of the Mediterranean coast. From the stunning location to the mouthwatering food and impeccable service, every aspect of this restaurant exceeded my expectations. It's the kind of place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to savor every moment and every bite.

If you find yourself in Kefalonia, Captin Nikolas is an absolute must-visit. Whether you're a seafood lover, a fan of Greek cuisine, or simply seeking a tranquil and memorable dining experience by the sea, you won't be disappointed. My visit will forever be etched in my memory as a perfect day by the sea...

Wow... just wow! If you want to taste authentic greek food, cooked to perfection in glorious surroundings, then look no further! Captain Nikolas is the whole package. The owner and her staff were attentive and friendly and couldn't do enough to make your visit memorable. The views over the ocean as the sun sets, are magical. Now the food, my husband and I have eaten in many places, but this restaurant is at the top of the list for flavour, fresh ingredients and presentation. We had the greek salad along with grilled cheese and dolmas to start. The salad was a meal in itself, full of fresh tomatoes, olives, cucumber, onion and a massive piece of cheese and a dusting of herbs. The homemade dolmas were full of flavour and sitting in a delicious lemon sauce mopped up with the fresh bread you get. The grilled cheese was hot and gooey with a beautiful crisp layer. We both had specials of the day, I had Moussaka which was outstanding, my husband had pork in lemon with sweet peppers and wild rice. We both left clean plates (a sign of a wonderful meal!). We weren't rushed and we enjoyed a red wine or 2 before we decided on having a baklava. What a treat for the tastebuds.... sweet, sticky and oh my so exceptionally good!!! If you want an authentic taste of mummas cooking when in Kefalonia.. a visit here is a no...
