This charming establishment holds a special place in my heart, a sentiment that has only deepened with time. My first visit, nearly a decade ago, left an indelible mark on my memory, and over the years, my family and I have often reminisced about it, longing to return. This year, we finally had the opportunity to relive that cherished experience.

The restaurant's unique charm remains intact, with its sandy floor inviting patrons to wiggle their toes as they sit and soak in the ambiance. The coffee and food offerings continue to delight, but it's evident that the establishment has undergone a transformation in recent years. The rebranding has elevated the dining experience, with a more refined menu that wouldn't be out of place in a high-end eatery.

While some of the new additions, such as the array of sushi options, may seem out of place to locals like myself, I can appreciate their appeal to visitors seeking a taste of familiarity amidst the rich tapestry of Greek cuisine. That being said, the dishes we sampled were undeniably well-prepared and bursting with flavor.

However, I can't help but fondly recall the original iteration of the restaurant, particularly their traditional Kefalonian dish, Riganada. The simplicity of that dish, a testament to the beauty of Greek cuisine, is a stark contrast to the more sophisticated, Michelin-style version served today. It's a poignant reminder that progress doesn't always equate to improvement.

So, a decade later, did this culinary journey live up to my expectations? Without a doubt, it was a delightful experience, one that I would gladly repeat and wholeheartedly recommend to others. Yet, as I reflect on the evolution of this beloved establishment, I can't help but feel a twinge of nostalgia for the raw, authentic charm of the original. It's a sentiment that mirrors the broader changes I've observed in Greece over the past 10-15 years, as the country's unique character gradually gives way to the homogenizing forces of modernity.

Please be advised that the swimming conditions may be less than ideal, as the sandy waters tend to become quite murky...

If you’re seeking a slice of authentic Greece, far from the tourist crowds, Vasta Beach Restaurant near Lixouri in Kefalonia is everything you didn’t know you were looking for. Set beside the secluded, golden sands of Vasta Beach, this family-run taverna is the kind of place that makes you slow down and savor life’s simpler pleasures.

Run with heart and soul by Nikos and Valentina, the atmosphere is warm and unpretentious—just like the food. You can dine with your toes practically in the sand, watching the sun dip behind the horizon as the Ionian Sea gently laps at the shore.

The menu highlights the best of Greek home cooking, with a standout selection of meze. Their grilled octopus, stuffed vine leaves, and freshly whipped tzatziki are a perfect prelude to the main event: the catch of the day. Nikos often sources fish straight from local boats that morning, and it’s prepared simply—grilled with olive oil, lemon, and herbs—letting the freshness speak for itself.

The ingredients are local, the flavors are honest, and the prices are incredibly fair. You’ll eat like royalty without emptying your wallet.

But what truly sets Vasta apart is the genuine hospitality. Nikos and Valentina treat every guest like a returning friend. There’s no rush here—just good food, warm smiles, and a setting so peaceful, it almost feels untouched by time.

Whether you’re staying in Lixouri or just exploring the island, Vasta Beach Restaurant is worth the detour. It’s more than a...

22/10/2025 After six months, we were back, and this lovely place is only getting better. It iss absolutely worth the trip from Argostoli. This time we finally tried the lobster pasta, amazing! Last visit they had just run out, and I still remember watching the table next to us enjoy the very last one 😊. Totally lived up to the wait!

Loved This Place!

Vatsa Beach Restaurant is such a hidden gem. It is right on the beach with a super chill vibe, run by a young local couple with international experience who have created something really special.

We visited when it was not too busy, mostly locals around, and felt instantly welcome. The owners were super friendly and gave us great tips for the island, just really genuine people.

The food was amazing, fresh fish straight from local fishermen and some seriously good sushi (didn’t expect that in a beach taverna!).

And then there’s the atmosphere, not just the beach and the sea, but the place is also home to a bunch of swifts or swallows nesting under the roof. They fly around while you eat, and it just adds this peaceful, magical vibe to the whole experience.

Plus, Momo the dog took it upon himself to entertain the kid, so we got to actually enjoy our meal. Free childcare courtesy of a very chill pup? Yes please.

Magical spot, can’t recommend it enough. Definitely a place we...

This place really is special. All the staff are welcoming and always serve you with a smile. The whole setting is beautiful, white washed wood throughout with beach sand as natural flooring. Tables are well spaced out with plenty available as the restaurant is on the larger side. Prices are extremely reasonable bearing in mind that it's the only place offering food and drink at the beach. We have eaten a few times during our stay and visit to the beach, so have worked our way through some of the menu. Beef ribs, lamb chops, Asian Cesar salad (the best I've ever had), swordfish and the smoked salmon bruschetta were all excellent and couldn't be faulted. Everything (that was meant to be warm) came hot. The beach itself is really quiet compared to some others on the Argostoli side and the sun bed cost is the cheapest we have seen on the island, €10 compared to €40/€50 in Lassi. As mentioned in previous reviews, plenty of nesting swallows around the restaurant that give you ariel displays and some lovely song bird music. The Sea is perhaps a little cooler than others, not as deep as quick as the likes of Myrtos or Petani but not as shallow like in Lassi. Overall - Highly recommend the restaurant for lunch or an evening meal, you certainly won't be disappointed. The beach is quiet, clean and not overcrowded.
