Beautiful restaurant, the view is wonderful and we immediately loved the vibe of the whole place. We didn’t have a reservation so we asked if we could have dinner. They told us to wait at the bar tables for around half an hour or if we wanted we could also eat our dinner at those tables which we accepted. All good, still wonderful view, food that was being served to others looked amazing. After 15 mins of waiting we finally got a drinks menu from a bartender as the waitress was very occupied non-stop with the guests eating at the normal tables, which is understandable, no problem for us. We saw and older gentleman walking up and down, talking to all the customers, not exactly very busy so when he passed by us we asked him if we could get menus which were 3 meters behind him (this was around 20 mins after we arrived). He rudely brushed us off, to wait for the lady. Immediately giving us a bad feeling about the whole place but we decided to give it a chance, maybe it’s just a cultural thing and his kindness was lost in translation. He passed several times after this as well, going up and down next to us, in and out from the restaurant to the terrace but still didn’t even look at us, let alone to bring a menu so we could at least take a look while waiting. After this from the bar a bartender came to us and offered drink menus at least, we ordered and asked if we could take a look at the food menus as well. He said for those we have to ask the waitress. The drinks were nice, well made, the prices were also alright. We waited an other 20 minutes, still no food menu as the waitress lady (who was super sweet and very kind with everyone) was continuously busy still. The waiter guy was also extremely busy as all times so we just let them be and waited until we were offered a table. (At this time the table we got later was already free for the past 15 minutes.) After 45 minutes of waiting we got the table, got menus finally, ordered our food. We even got some free appetisers that were really nice. Food was tasty, looking great, nice portions as well. During our dinner the earlier (to us) rude gentleman kept visiting ALL the tables, talked to everyone, smiled, offered wines, had a chat, except to us. Not a single time. Every other table was visited several times, but all we got was some dirty looks and hand motions to the waitress lady about us (I believe because the table was reserved and shouldn’t have been given to us?!). We ate our dinner as quickly as possible, one course and just couldn’t wait to leave because the entire time we felt uncomfortable. He made us feel like outsiders (Like he looked down on us for being just a young couple who wandered into his restaurant?! We are both successful people, my husband is an emergency doctor and I work for the Lufthansa family - so we both work with hundreds of people all day and know how it is and we carefully chose this restaurant after researching earlier for our anniversary), never talked to us. All the other employees as well were constantly checking on the other tables, smiling, asking them about their experience while we were constantly left out (important to mention our table was right in between these tables, not on the edge or anything to be just forgotten about). After the coldest experience we decided to just get the bill and leave. The waitress lady was still kind, we talked to her about our experience and she told us the gentleman is her boss (which makes this even worse…) and that he is generally very kind to all the guests, and that all those other tables are repeaters, maybe that’s the reason why he was more attentive to them. She tried her best to find a logical explanation for his behaviour but to be fair, if he wants new repeaters as well he could have been slightly nicer to new customers as well. Overall the experience was ruined for us, regardless of the nicely presented and well made food with the beautiful view. Will not return regardless of how nice the waiter and the waitress were. We probably would have been treated differently if we had a...
Read moreWe took my daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren, ages 9 and 12, to dinner. The meal was some of the best food we have had in Greece. We had a mix of fish fillet, lamb, beef, a couple appetizers, and salads. One of their specialties is their wood oven and low-and-slow cooking that makes the meats super tender.
What struck us first was the excellent service. We were greeted with familiarity and offered assistance with picking food items, encouraged to ask questions, etc. With a 9-year-old, we ordered the beef item after sitting down. The server spoke it out loud, and it was delivered as soon as the server left with the table's order. One of the benefits with slow cooking is that the food is cooked in advance. Service throughout the meal was excellent, without ever feeling that they were hovering or pushing us to eat faster. They even took excellent pictures of our group at the table.
Their drinks menu is extensive and the drinks we had were excellent. There is a good selection of local wines and Greek beers in addition to many specialty cocktails.
The food was all excellent, with our group sharing tastes of each other's entrees. Even the kids raved about their meals. A really nice finish to the meal was the desserts with some excellent panna cotta, a chocolate souffle with ice cream, and ice cream for the kids. Another surprise is that ice cream is made with goat's milk. My granddaughter commented that her chocolate was the best ice cream she has ever had. The vanilla ice cream with the chocolate souffle was also outstanding, very rich and creamy.
One cannot review Terrassa Restaurant without talking about the view. The view shown in the picture is accurate, but we preferred the view looking a bit more east and seeing the Elounda Collection resorts along with the mountains. The hill provides shade from the sun in the evening and provides a spectacular view to the east with the sun behind you in the west.
We don't know when we will get back to Crete again, but Terrassa Restaurant is on our must-do list...
Read moreFrom excellent to exceptional service
Rarely have I felt so welcome to a restaurant as when our family stepped to Terrassa for dinner around half past seven. We were received by three waitresses and waiters, in a manner which was very polite yet warm. The hearthy welcome prompted us to order aperitifs and starters, too. It's something we don't usually do, because our baby and 3-year-old tend to set all kinds of hurdles along the path of a good long (or even regular) dinner. The staff's attentive and personal style throughout the evening was something one experiences only seldom.
This was excellent, but something exceptional was yet to come. As we were enjoying the appetizers, our baby started feeling uncomfortable and breastfeeding didn't help to her discontent. It's the kind of a situation we're used to dealing with, eating in turns and so on, trying to make sure not to disturb others too much... but then the waitress came and asked for the baby! She took her inside and soothed the little one! "Of course you need to have a chance to enjoy your food!" We enjoyed our dinner and our baby had ended up in the hands of another lovely lady before she returned to the table for some milk. This was repeated a bit later, and this time our baby had been wrapped in a blanket, too. Never have I experienced something like this, totally outside the ordinary and coming so naturally and cordially from the staff.
And the food? Probably the best we had on Crete. My Cretan salad with smoked pork was full of flavours, but still refreshing as salad is supposed to be and interesting. Sautéed halloumi with fig chutney combined classical elements, but the chutney gave the appetizer a great twist that I hadn't tasted before. Sea bream with porcini mushrooms and shrimps followed the same line: quality ingredients combined into new, yet balanced experiences. A great surprise cheese cake in the end crowned the wonderful evening. Thank...
