I’m not usually one for writing reviews—let alone one that sounds like a travel blog—but I’ve got the time, and something about this place just gets under your skin.

This is my second time staying at Agia Fotia, and I didn’t think it was possible to enjoy it more than the first—but I have. It’s a small, family-run taverna in a quiet, out-of-the-way spot, and that’s exactly what makes it special. There’s no big show here. Just real people, running a place with heart.

The food is excellent. We tried a different dish every day, and each one hit the mark. Nothing fussy—just good, honest cooking that makes you want to slow down and enjoy it properly.

If you’re looking for a place to stay while racing around sightseeing, this probably isn’t it. But if you want to switch off, swim in warm sea water, snorkel around some beautiful rocks, and lose track of time, then this is exactly the right place. Bring sea shoes—the beach is rocky—and don’t bother with anything fancy. It’s a slops-and-T-shirt kind of place.

A small tip (literally): staff appreciate cash tips, since the new Greek laws mean card tips are taxed. They work hard and make you feel genuinely welcome, so keep that in mind.

Part of me hesitates to even write this—I'd rather not have too many people discover it. But the family deserve every bit of success. They’ve put a lot into this place, and it shows. I’ll definitely be back, probably more often than I should.

Come for the peace and quiet. Stay for the food, the sea, and the kind of hospitality that’s getting harder to...

Staying in Kerames and took the wrong road down to this lovely taverna right on the sea. Do NOT trust satnav in this part of Crete! The setting is fab and as it was a Monday night we had no problem getting a table right on the low wall overlooking the bay. Can’t fault the service or the food (sea bass was apparently best ever say my missus, who hardly eats anything else!). My prawn linguine was huge and very very tasty. Also worth noting they had local organic beer which was delicious. Oh and the wine as recommended was fab too. Lovely lovely place x

UPDATE May 2021: it’s still one of the loveliest tavernas ever. Just fab food, drinks, service...

After travelling around crete for weeks and eating, breakfast, lunch and dinner in a new place everyday. We finally had a lunch here.. When you find a place on Google earth and say I am going there and to have your expectations met and beaten, is just the nicest thing ever. When food is simple it should be the freshest and best produce you can find and this place is that. I have eaten grilled sardines all over Europe. Portugal being the Mecca. This beat it by miles. I loved every mouthful..Amazing place. Amazing location, Amazing owner and I can't wait to return. If you come to this part of crete, come here.. JUST MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE...

We had the pleasure of visiting this tavern during a hot summer day. The marine breeze and the shade over the tables right by the water made it perfect despite the heat. The service was fast, despite being quite busy, and the atmosphere very friendly. Talking about the food, it was of great quality. Vagelis, the chef and owner, is paying attention to the source of his ingredients and, together with his family, prepare meals in a traditional timeless way, without missing some touch of modernity in some plates. In one word, it’s absolutely recommended!
