2024 review: A Delightful Dining Experience in Sellia, Crete
Elia is a charming restaurant in the village of Sellia that we have been visiting for the past four years. This place is a true gem, offering a wonderful dining experience every time.
The restaurant has great views and a lovely atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing meal.
Nikos and Nina, the brains behind Elia, are incredibly welcoming. Nikos comes around to chat with guests, adding a personal touch to the dining experience. The service is exceptional, with attentive staff (especially Antonella) ensuring you have everything you need.
The food at Elia is consistently good, with a creative menu that includes weekly and daily specials. Whether you’re in the mood for traditional Greek dishes or something a bit more inventive, Elia has you covered.
Reservations are required as Elia is quite popular and closed on Wednesdays.
Despite the busy nature, the quality of food and service never disappoints. We plan to return next year, and Elia will definitely be on our list. Highly recommended!
2022 (see 2021 review below). The tradition and standard in Cretan cuisine. The food is pure, the location and views are great. The service is tight. Just make sure you make a reservation as this place gets booked and filled quickly.
The dishes are creative and the flavours are to brilliant. We were at Elia every 3rd day of our 2 week Trip. Niko the owner runs a tight shift. Great sense of humour and very accommodating.
One of my favourite dish was “beef Sofrito” so good among other creative dishes.
Elia, thank you for your hospitality… we will be back.
2021: Good food. Great location. Good views.
Make a reservation. This place gets booked pretty fast. Good menu. Especially the daily specials.
We had lamb, pork, chicken with apricot and honey. Great tasting dishes.
Don’t forget to try desserts. Especially local ice cream...

Family owned and run, they enjoy what they do and it shows in the service and in the delicious food! Our food allergies were easily accommodated (gluten and dairy), and all the dishes we tried (salads and entrees) were fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. Gigandes (large beans oven baked in tomato) were a flavorful favorite. Inside space is cozy and attractive with a relaxing atmosphere. Balcony also is inviting but as there was a breeze we opted for inside. Daily menu specials on chalkboard highlight seasonal vegetables, meat, and fish. We were there late at night so it limited our ability to appreciate the expansive view, which would be even more spectacular before dusk or with a full moon! We were really glad to discover Elia...
Read moreElia distinguishes out from other restaurants as they offer quite a few original recipies that you cant find in any other place around the area. The day's specials change so one doesn't get bored.
The owners, Nikos and Nina have set a quite cozy and relaxing space to offer the most to their guests!
High quality raw materials and attention to detail will hopefully make it one of your best moments in the south.
Do reserve a table if you plan to go on busy hours, especially July or August the same morning or the previous day.
We visit it with family every year several times and its one of our favourite summer spots.
Tip: Do ask for Greek small brewery bottled beer list if you plan on drinking beer. Each one of them hides a different character. My favourite is "Volcan" from Santorini lager with...
