It was not their night. There was no menu on paper, which we didn't like (because we didn't allow our teenagers to bring their phone). We waited more than 30 minutes to get the drinks. When we asked for a wine recommendation that goes well with our food, they waitress was clearly unable to cope. "It's your choice, really." When I ordered a random bottle of red wine from Crete (from a menu of 5 different red wines), she said: "Oh, no one has ever ordered this. I recommend you take a wine by the glass." While the waitress was taking our order, she was disrupted by her colleague. She then left our table to bring some bread to another table. Then she came back to finish taking the order. All the dishes arrived at different times, so that no one could eat their dish in company (party of four). The food was so-so (fried potatoes - this was an entrée, we clearly expected something a bit more inspiring) to good (pastitsada, gnochi, hanger steak with polenta). Generally, quality was clearly above the usual tourist food on Corfu, for reasonable prices. The portions were very small (10 gnochis for a main dish) to just right (hanger steak). Location is nice, though we didn't appreciate the dogs straying around the tables and begging for food. In the end, for us it was clearly not worth the trip from Paleokastritsa. We hope that this was an exceptional situation, and the other reviews seem to suggest just that. Also, we communicated our disappointment to the owner, and she reacted very professionally. It seems she knew things were not up to her standards either. Either way, we hope that she either manages to find more qualified staff, to train them better, or to reduce the...
Read moreHaving read some reviews about this place before our trip to Corfu, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the good reviews were on spot. We arrived late afternoon and the place was empty, which was a good thing. Without the crowds, we were provided very outstanding personal service by the owner hostess, wife of the the chef. We were treated in a wonderfully gracious manner, with the confidence of the wife/server already knowing that we were going to have a culinary delight! Unlike many restaurants that try to cater to tourist crowd and provide "the most authentic Greek" specialities, Tomateli provides what is local and special. The food was clean, presented beautifully, and was delicious in every respect! Seems the Husband wife team met in Culinary school, and after working on the mainland, return to the husband's home town to begin something on their own. And how great for the two of them, warm, confident and happy in their choice of their own establishment, you really felt that they were serving each dish especially for you. You can have your souvlaki, kebabs, and moussaka, this place deserves a huge mention usually reserved for top rated restaurants. We are well versed in fine dining but more so in, just plain good food! I don't usually write reviews, but for this place, so special I thought i'de take the time to do so, Its a Gem of a spot. The only reservation I have is the great reviews already given will make this place an even more popular destination. I don't think the success of this establishment will change anything already stated, just the difficulty of getting a reservation might. Enjoy enjoy enjoy, this honest review and wonderful...

My wife and I zipping about (almost) on the trusty moped, saw a small track road and thought yes! this one would lead to the perfect hidden cove/bay, as many do (people looking for the perfect hidden cove/bay that is) It was close to lunch and as we moped'ed around the corner I saw a sign for Coffee & Food Station, 'lets just grab a quick drink and something to eat before our quest for the hidden cove' that in all likely hood was discovered by 120 other tourists from 10:00 am that morning.
Park the bike in the shade and nip across the road. We are greeted warmly, offered our choice of table in a little vine covered court yard, we take our seats are given the menu's and the daily specials are explained, not the usual home cooked dishes that are so often on offer. I am not going to list the dishes we ordered, or attach images of sunshine glinting through a wine glass adjacent a softly focused plate of food. Call me old fashioned, but personally I prefer to share the dinning experience by enjoying the food, talking and laughing as opposed to taking pictures of plates & glasses and the obligatory 'selfies' and when the food is this good, and it really is very good, my phone is the last thing I'm reaching for.
We stayed for 3 hours and had a fantastic meal, alas we didn't find or try to find the hidden bay/cove. However we did book a table for the very next evening and once again the food really was very good and the...
