Taverna Kalyva — Restaurant in Municipality of Chersonissos

It is a very pleasant taverna with really nice food and view too. My husband got pancetta and it was just AMAZING. I have never had better pancetta in my life (and I am Greek 😎) Our starters were also really nice. My main dish was Kalamari Sxaras, it was good but not the best I have had. The only dish I didn’t enjoy eating was mushrooms grilled. I am a sucker for mushrooms and it was really looking forward to eating them but it wasn’t what i was looking for. The balsamic sauce made them rather sweet and the taste in overall was just plain, nothing exciting. I ended up not eating them. Service was fast and everyone was polite. Some smiling would be the cherry on top of the cake though 😊 Location is really beautiful, sunset looks amazing from there. However it is located on the street therefore you will see cars passing. Last but not least, i have read some comments regarding “ to kerasma” and it is true that some tables get it and some don’t . We didn’t get it but i saw tables around us getting some fruits and raki. It doesn’t happen because of nationality though 😂 We are Greeks and didn’t get it either. Would recommend some consistency in that though no matter how busy it might be. The restaurant is in a lovely location overlooking the beach and the sea. There is loads of parking available opposite and down the street.

The fried mushrooms are out of this world and the seafood penne was delicious, all of the ingredients tasted so fresh.

I don't think 3 stars is entirely fair as the food was 4*, the thing that let it down was the staff. They seemed really unhappy and gave one word answers, not being very helpful at all. We had to really digg to get answers, nothing was offered for free. It's a complete contrast to any other place that we've eaten at while we've been here.d

They also didn't deliver some of the items that we ordered and they delivered our starters at the same time as our mains. In fact they delivered the mains before the starters.

The experience was a bit complicated, we waited about 5-8 minutes for a table at lunchtime which was fine, but we also waited 40 minutes for our food and we had asked for it twice. As soon as the food arrived I was accidentally wet by the waiter and that was a really bas feeling for me. But after that they gave as a free drink, I’m really appreciate it.

Anyway, the food was ok and the waiters and staff were very nice but the prices are a bit on the high side for this year and not only here. The mussels was delicious and it’s fresh not frozen one as an other restaurant, I highly recommend. I would recommend you to come and savour the food, but let's see if you are lucky for wait or not.
