Restaurant & Pension Babis — Restaurant in Municipality of Festos

Small and nice looking restaurant. We ordered a pizza, chicken souflaki and small squid. The squid was not available and "no good" according to the owner. The souvlaki would be the same meat as the "Giros menu of the day"

We wanted chicken souflaki so ordered this. In stead of the squid we ordered calamari.

The pizza was served quite fast and baked a bit too long (dark) About 10 minutes later two plates were served with a mix of chicken and pork?(not two skewers like indicated on the menu) The meat was very dry and hardly any spaces were used. Again after long waiting, the calamari were served..these were very chewy..

We paid and left, will not return: this was not the Greek qualy we experienced on many...

Babis is a place for the heart, one of the true greek/ Cretan tavernas. The food is excellent, the owner and his wife are two hardworking, very sweet elderly people, truly heartwarming to be there. Beautiful views, veggies and fruits from their garden, lamb from local farmers, delicious red fish egg salad, traditional slow cooked foods like stifado and pastitsio spiced perfectly. Very nice restaurant with absolute delicious typical Greek meals. The owner couple is so lovely, and you are welcome from the first visit as you are part of their family. Doxia makes the best soups of the whole area and the menu has a good variety for every taste . The ambience is unique.
