Lakuva — Restaurant in Municipality of Gortys

I've been spending weekends and summer vacations in Diskos for as long as I can remember myself. In fact, Surely since the 70's and 80's. Anyway, this weekend my friends and I (2 grown ups and 3 kids) spent at least 200 euros at the Tavern in food, water, umbrellas, beverages, in 24 hours etc. Everybody knows and accepts that prices are high and the quality of the food is low. But the thing that made me write this review is that the waiter of the tavern scolded our kids and and expressed their discomfort to us for one of the least significant incidents. This is not what Cretans do, they were plainly rude and inhospitable not only towards the kids but towards us. The incident was the following: the kids started playing with the table water, mixing it with salt, pepper, oil, vinegar and sadly ketchup. They shouldn't have done it but they did... naturally, we apologized to the waiter... I've done way-way worse as a kid in vacations all over Greece and I have very vivid memories of friendly tavern owners laughing kindly, expressing their understanding to my parents and repeating what every Cretan knows, that this is how healthy children grow up here, exploring and playing by the sea. While the food quality in general was at best average compared to the tavernas in the neighborhood, the bread stood out in a negative way: on three occasions we were served obviously a convenience product (square shaped rolls of questionable smell and taste, dry) - nothing we would consider "bread". This is particularly disappointing, because every day some guy delivered fresh bread to the other...

Κάποτε, ειλικρινά, θα έπρεπε αυτές οι ταβέρνες να μάθουν να φτιάχνουν καλό, απλό ελληνικό φαγητό, πριν το σερβιρουν. Φάγαμε στην Λακούβα μετά από μια υπέροχη μέρα στη νότια Κρητη. Το μαγαζι εχει φανταστική θέα στη θάλασσα και το ηλιοβασίλεμα. Το περιβάλλον ήταν εξαιρετικό. Όμως, το φαγητό κατω του μετριου. Τα φασολάκια ήρθαν οχι όλα το ίδιο μαγειρεμενα, και με υπερβολικό αλάτι. Στο ιδιο πιάτο, τα καρότα ήταν άψητα και οι πατάτες παραψηνενες, 3 υφες δηλαδη χωρις συνοχή, και το κυριότερο χωρις νοστιμιά. Το ψαρονέφρι κοννενο σε φετες, στεγνο και λιγο σκληρό, δεν θα επρεπε να βγαίνει χωρις να είναι ζουμερό... Επιπλέον, αυτή η συνήθεια να βάζουν ξαναζεσταμένο ρύζι δίπλα στο κρέας πρέπει να σταματήσει, ήταν μια άμορφη μάζα χωρίς καμία ουσία. Η γαριδομακαρονάδα ήταν υπερβολικά αλμυρή, με περίεργη μυρωδιά γαρίδας και παραβρασμένα μακαρόνια. Ακόμα και η χωριάτικη σαλάτα είχε ελιές που έβγαζαν μια μούχλα, και χοντροκομμένα φύλλα μαρουλιού, ακατάλληλο για χωριατικη καλοκαιριου... Το λεμονάτο αρνάκι ήταν πολυ νοστιμο αλλα πολύ αλμυρό και οι συνοδευτικες τηγανητες πατάτες λαδοπιωμενες. Ακόμα και τα ντολμαδάκια, που θα έπρεπε να είναι υπέροχα σε καθε κρητικο μαγαζι, ήταν κακοφτιαγμένα....
