Manolis ha 88 anni, una vita raccontata dalle foto appese alle pareti e un'energia incredibile. È l'oste più anziano di Menetes, di Karpathos e forse di tutta la Grecia, ma a lui poco importa. Ogni sera accoglie i suoi clienti, prende le ordinazioni, consiglia i piatti tipici, serve al tavolo, fa i calcoli, porta il conto e regala il dolcetto... un portento. È orgoglioso dei suoi Makarones, definiti da molti i migliori dell'isola a pari merito con quelli di Olympos, è intollerante ai cambi menu, potete anche chiederli, ma non vi ascolterà! Lui è l'anima di questa taverna e il gioiello che la distingue da tutte le altre. Una taverna greca alla vecchia maniera, senza fronzoli, tanta sostanza. Andateci. Non ve ne pentirete.

Spinto dalle buone recensioni ho lasciato Pigadia dove alloggiamo per andare a Menetes distante un quarto d'ora. Dopo aver trovato la taverna con qualche difficoltà (bisogna salire delle scale per arrivarci) accompagnati da una persona del posto molto gentile che ci ha fatto strada, ci siamo seduti all'ingresso perchè sulla terrazza c'era molto vento. Sembra di tornare indietro nel tempo. Il titolare molto vecchio ci ha accolto con il sorriso e ci ha fatto accomodare. Abbiamo ordinato un'insalata di Karphatos (piatto gigante per famiglia!!!!), un piatto di fave tipiche del posto, lo stifado di agnello. Stavo per ordinare un altro piatto ma la ragazza mi ha detto di ordinare eventualmente dopo. Poi ho capito il perchè. Abbiamo fatto fatica a finire tutto. Piatti abbondantissimi. Lo stifado buonissimo. Mia moglie non ama l'agnello ma lo ha mangiato lo stesso per quanto era buono. Si scioglieva in bocca. Il tutto accompagnato con dei buonissimi cipollotti e patate al forno. Un buon quarto di 🍷. A fine cena ci sono stati offerti i tipici dolci con il miele e la cannella (una bomba). Il tutto per la modica cifra di 31,50 euro. Lascio a voi ogni giudizio. Consigliatissimo.
