We visited this restaurant on Sunday after seeing its excellent 4.9 rating. While there were definitely some enjoyable aspects, we think there’s still room for improvement—especially with the Sunday grill.
The grilled chicken was tasty. The grilled pork from the pit was quite dry; it might be improved with a shorter grill time or by using a fattier cut. Pancetta was also available on the menu—perhaps that would have been a juicier and more flavorful choice. We’re also curious whether the lamb from the pit might be more tender and moist.
The grilled potatoes on the side of grilled meat were very good and crispy, and the dakos was fresh and well-prepared. The ambience is pleasant, though it could be enhanced with a bit of greenery and some traditional music.
Service was friendly, and the staff did ask how the food was when we were paying. We appreciate that, though it might be even more helpful if they check in while guests are still eating—it would allow for real-time feedback, like mentioning the pork being dry.
Portions and pricing were fair. With just a few thoughtful adjustments, this place has the potential to fully live up to its...
Read moreWell well well, this place is hidden away but luckily my friend knows it well. Clean, rustic with views of the gorge & a blanket of olive trees. Needless to say we were starving & hot. The waitress brought our cold beers & lemonade for our refreshing shandies. Paul ordered, lamb & chips, chicken & pasta, with an aubergine tomato sauce topped with a kind of mozzarella cheese (but it wasn't). I used the bread to soak up the tomato sauce which had just the right amount of oregano.... delicious, mwah. The main arrived & I immediately regretted filling up on bread as everything looked succulent but was it? I plated up some chicken 🍗 & a little pasta, with sauce. Everything was yummy, such love. The lamb was tender, rich but not oily or over seasoned. The chips were flavoured beautifully as well. Now this was simple but tasty food. There was true true passion in the cooking. Did we have space for dessert, we couldn't help it. Four homemade ice-creams. My God, the vanilla caramel was my favourite but the I tasted the chocolate chip. If you enjoy good, tasty food,...
Read moreA trully great place to eat cretan food, lovingly prepared by a dedicated and down to earth cook. Although when visited some dishes were finished what we had were truly tasty. When it comes to Mousaka I hesitate to order as it must be the best otherwise it stays on the plate. Fear not it surpassed all our expectations and I was glad I found the courage to order it. The same happened with the stuffed vegetables. The sort of dish that more often than not ends up being mediocre; by the clever use of spices it had been elevated to the most amazing dish.
To top it all, we were treated to a special kind of cheese pie called sfakiani pitta served with cinnamon and honey. Few people know how to make this pie, this though was the real deal. It was so good we orderred another two! Naughty but extremely nice! Well worth visiting on the way to or...
