We had a reservation at 8:00 p.m. on September 28th, but we arrived at 7:35 p.m. as two adults and a 10-month-old baby. There were only about 5–6 tables occupied in the venue — you could say 75% of it was empty — since no one except the owner, Dimitri, could decide where we could sit, we waited in front of a table for 2–3 minutes. He offered us one of the table far from the sea so we would be away from the other customers (probably that because of we have a baby). We said no, and he allowed us to sit at the table we wanted.
After that, a high chair for the baby arrived and we looked at the menu. Our priority was to feed our hungry baby. Since she’s not even one year old yet, the options she can eat are very limited, and we couldn’t find anything suitable on the menu. When we asked about the fish of the day the waiter didn’t know and told us to go inside and take a look. I went, checked, and chose a suitable one. Then, as I was heading back inside again to tell them they could start preparing the fish right away, I ran into Dimitri on the way, and that’s when the nonsense began.
Dimitri, who seems to think the place is a military base and he’s a sergeant, told me that to place an order I had to return to the table. He followed me back, and before I could say a single word, he started saying that Turks are very impatient, that we had already arrived early 25 mins and immediately wanted to order. I told him we could wait, but it would be good if they could prepare the baby’s food as soon as possible, because we didn’t want her to start crying and disturb the neighboring table. He then said that if we had a baby, we shouldn’t have waited until that hour and should have come earlier — and then he turned his back and walked away. Not his business! No one can tell me what to do with my baby. We left the venue in less than 30 seconds and went to the first taverna we could find. We had our meal there and fed the baby the simple food we had brought with us without making her wait any longer. Making a comment about a customer’s nationality is extremely unprofessional and a racist attitude. I will report this business and the incident exactly as it happened to the Ministry of Tourism. I hope action will be taken against such an ugly attitude, especially in a season when Turks make up the majority of tourism income for the...
Read moreThe one star is not for the food, but unfortunately for the unexpected rudeness of the head waiter. If possible, we would give minus ten stars.
Both my mother and I have travelled widely across Europe, and I live in London myself. We have never experienced a waiter throwing a fit at us simply for lifting a hand to get noticed to order. The restaurant was busy, the space is large, and he was the only one taking orders. My mother raised her hand with a smile and not out of impatience, but just to make sure he could see us. We were in a happy mood and content to be there.
The first thing the owner/head waiter said when he came to our table was that he got angry at her. My mother does not speak English and was only smiling, yet he went on to lecture us that “all you Turks raise your hands to order and in Europe this is not a thing, it drives me crazy.” This is the last thing you expect to hear after sitting down in a restaurant, and even worse when it comes from the owner.
Perhaps he had a bad experience in the past and developed a personal complex about it, but this does not excuse taking it out on customers.
We smiled and tried to let it pass, but it took us a few minutes to grasp just how rude it was. He then took our order with visible arrogance.
We have never experienced such treatment in Greece, in other Greek islands, or anywhere else in Europe.
Because of this unacceptable behavior, we cannot recommend...
Read moreA Special Spot on Alinda Beach – Worth a Visit in Leros We came across this place right on the waterfront at Alinda Beach, and it quickly became one of the highlights of our stay. The setting is beautiful – you sit almost at the water’s edge, with the Aegean just in front of you. What stood out most was the warm and attentive service from Dimitri. He didn’t just take our order but took the time to ask about our preferences and suggest dishes that suited us. His hospitality made the meal feel personal and relaxed. The food was fresh and well-prepared, from the seafood to the salad with local ingredients. Everything tasted as though it had been made with care. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to come back a couple more times during our stay. If you’re in Leros, this is definitely a...
