Opou Vastaxi — Restaurant in Municipality of Malevizi

Come here for the food but also know you are at a choice location on the coast We had just picked up our rental car after a longish 12 hour travel and saw this spot and stopped more because it was there and everybody was hungry( we were another 90 mins drive away to our destination). While completely random, I am so glad we did as this was my first experience with Cretan hospitality. We got seated and greeted with a warm welcome

The view was just as spectacular as we got to see an amazing sunset right on the water. We ordered a number of dishes (lamb, salad, cheese, moussaka). All were excellent. Because it was getting late we paid the bill and the manager felt that if we could not have the watermelons (part of tradition at all restaurants to offer something after the meal to the visitor), he packed it for us so we could it on the drive. This is a choice spot for photographs that we randomly stumbled on. While we were seated, we saw a few groups of ATV riders past the restaurant about 500m up. This is a true story and things happened exactly as described here - received a big smile and a warm hello. This was followed by such warmth and patience while us and our rug rats pondered and selected off the menu. Beer served - Mythos - ice cold and super tasty. A convenient place located right next to the route if you don't want to make a huge detour when driving. As the previous reviews mentioned already, the view is absolutely stunning, directly onto the sea. We had a Greek salad & a moussaka, both were fine but not exceptional.
