I stumbled upon Taverna Sotiris thanks to a recommendation from a friendly taxi driver — and what a fantastic tip it turned out to be! Tucked away in the neighborhood of Sykies, this no-frills local taverna is a real slice of authentic Greek life.
The first surprise came when I opened the menu and realized it was only in Greek — a clear sign that this place caters mostly to locals. Even more reassuring was that we were the only tourists there, surrounded by families, old friends, and regulars who all seemed to know each other and the staff.
I ordered the pork steak on the spit, which was perfectly grilled, juicy, and full of flavor — just how you’d hope it would be. I also tried soutzoukakia, traditional Greek beef meatballs in a rich tomato sauce, and fried zucchini, crispy and light. Everything tasted homemade and delicious.
To top it all off, the owner surprised us with a complimentary dessert, a gesture that really captured the warmth and hospitality of the place. The prices? Incredibly fair — I’d even say shockingly reasonable for the quality and quantity of food.
If you’re looking for a truly local experience, far from the tourist traps, Taverna Sotiris is absolutely worth...
Read moreWe found this taverna thanks to google reviews and it didn’t disappoint. We arrived and there was a nice buzzing atmosphere and instantly were treated very well. The woman who runs the restaurant sat down with us and helped us to choose the food we would want to eat since the menus are only in Greek. She asked about allergies what we liked and suggested the food according to that and even told that if we didn’t like the food she would make something else. The food was superb, meatballs, couscous, huge bowl of their trademark salad ( I highly recommend), bread, tzatziki and fried zucchini. They came and asked multiple times if everything was good and we were treated super well. They gave some more wine and dessert on the house that made this place even more memorable. I highly recommend this traditional Greek taverna to everyone visiting, it might be a little bit out of the tourist area but it is worth it and also worth to see the city outside of the attractions areas. Super cute, if I ever come back this is the place I will definitely visit again. Good luck to the staff and keep making food...
Read moreAnchor Brewery tour was excellent, even for a person like me who knows very little about beer. First of all, parking was super easy for Saturday at 2pm. The tour started with a sample of their staple beer, Anchor Steam. This was followed by a walking tour of the brewery. Mike, the tour guide, did a great job explaining the beer making process. The only downside to going on a weekend is that the floor where beer is produced is not in operation.
After the walking tour of three different levels, we were led back to the main room where we were given five additional samplings, from the lightest to the heaviest/darkest. It seemed like each one was better than the last.
The gift store was tiny but had Anchor t-shirts, hats, glasses, and of course beer. All the items were fairly priced. Compared to items sold on Pier 39, these were dirt cheap.
I have never been on any other beer factory tours so I can't say how it compares but this was a very relaxing and...
