Vythos Cafe-Resaturant — Restaurant in Municipality of North Kynouria

We stayed at the hotel for a week. When we booked it, we were promised a room with a kitchen and small stove but when we arrived we were herded in a tiny room with just a fridge and a plastic boiling kettle. On the first day, we used their (illegally installed and operated, I found out later) beach chairs and umbrella. We ordered a couple of coffees and the owners were quick to point out (very rudely) that we were not able to sit there unless we purchased goods that totaled €15. That includes two coffees, two cheese pies and two bottled waters. We were shocked because when we called to book the place, we were told that the beach "facilities" were included in the price. The next day we sat there again, thinking that the previous day's incident may had been a "one of". Canadians like to give the benefit of the doubt. This time we sat farther away from the beach and we were charged €7 for two coffees and two waters but the receipt was for €5. I asked if the two extra euros were for renting the umbrella but the lady said that the umbrella was free of charge. This was as bizarre as it gets. Suffice to say, we never sat there again. To make matters worse, the room towels were not changed during our six day stay, nor was our bathroom cleaned and the provided liquid hand soap was so watered down that it squirted all over our clothes when we first used it. I understand that Greece is a crisis striken country and cutting corners may make or break a business, but €70 per night during the slow season when your hotel is not full should buy you customers a better experience. We have been visiting Astros every year for the past eight years, and this is by far the worst place we have ever stayed at. I am definitely never going to rent there again. Λοιπόν, συνολικά μιλάμε για μια πολύ τίμια επιλογή για διαμονή και φαγητό στο Άστρος. Μείναμε 3 μέρες για δεύτερη φορά. Την πρώτη φορά είχαμε μείνει σε δωμάτιο που βλέπει στη θάλασσα, όλα τα λεφτά. Αυτή τη φορά μείναμε σε δωμάτιο που βλέπει πίσω, εντάξει... χάνει πολύ...γενικά πάντως έχει άνετα και πολύ καθαρά δωμάτια. Κάθε χρόνο οι άνθρωποι προσπαθούν να βελτιώνουν πράγματα και να αντικαθιστούν παλιά πράγματα με καινούργια, οπότε καλό είναι να συνεννοείστε τι δωμάτιο θέλετε έγκαιρα καθώς υπάρχουν διαφορές από δωμάτιο σε δωμάτιο. Όλα τα δωμάτια και οι χώροι πάντως είναι καθαροί. Η γυναίκα που τα καθαρίζει κάνει το καλύτερο που μπορεί. Από κάτω τώρα το ξενοδοχείο έχει καφέ και εστιατόριο και ακριβώς μπροστά οργανωμένη παραλία. Οι άνθρωποι εκεί που φροντίζουν τα πάντα είναι σε μεγάλο βαθμό η οικογένεια του ιδιοκτήτη, νεαροί και νεαρές και 1-2 έμπειροι. Αυτό μπορεί να ακούγεται αρνητικό αλλά τελικά δεν είναι. Σκίζονται να σε εξυπηρετήσουν πέρα από τα τυπικά. Τα πάντα είναι νόστιμα, οι μερίδες τε-ρά-στι-ες και κάποια πράγματα αποκάλυψη! Έφαγα έναν από τους καλύτερους ψητούς μπακαλιάρους που έχω φάει ποτέ, φτιαγμένο όχι σε γκριλιέρα αλλά σε ψησταριά με κάρβουνα. Μπιφτέκι εκπληκτικό με πατάτες φούρνου (!!) τέλειες, πίτσα πολύ καλή και εξαιρετικό club. Μοσχαρίσια γάλακτος αφρός, τυροπιτάρι εξαιρετικό, σαρδέλα φο-βε-ρή, γαριδομακαρονάδα αξιοπρεπέστατη. Κι όλα αυτά σε μερίδες XXXL...Μπριάμ πολύ καλό, σαλάτες ωραιότατες, καλαμάκια κοτόπουλο άψογα!! Γιαουρτλού κεμπάπ που δεν ήταν το καλύτερο κεμπάπ που έχω φάει, αλλά που επιτέλους το γιαούρτι ήταν άφθονο και στητό πάνω στο κεμπάπ κι όχι από κάτω να έχει γίνει ένα νερόπλυμα σαν ξυνόγαλο που μετατρέπει και την πίτα σε παπάρα ψωμιού... Μαρίδα και αθερίνα άψογα. Τηγανητά καλαμαράκια όχι καλά, χταπόδι μέτριο. Για το πρωινό μεγάλη ποικιλία πραγμάτων με την special ομελέτα να τα σπάει. Γενικά πάντως, 8 άτομα δοκιμάσαμε πρωί μεσημέρι βράδυ επί 3 μέρες το 90% του καταλόγου και μείναμε ενθουσιασμένοι με τα περισσότερα. Οι τιμές μια χαρά!! Τα πάντα μπορείς να τα φας εκεί ή 10 μέτρα πιο μπροστά στις ξαπλώστρες της παραλίας. Τα παιδιά στο σέρβις του μαγαζιού και της παραλίας πάντα πρόθυμα και με χαμόγελο τρέχουν ασταμάτητα. Ακόμα και το νερό με τον καφέ που σου φέρνουν στις ξαπλώστρες, στα φέρνουν μέσα σε μεταλλικό κουβαδάκι γεμάτο με πάγο για να διατηρούνται παγωμένα!! Respect... Συνολική αποτίμηση;; Πηγαίνετε σίγουρα, ζητήστε από τη Ματούλα δωμάτιο που να βλέπει θάλασσα και...φροντίστε να κάνετε δίαιτα...

After the hotel we booked earlier cancelled on us at the last minute due to a water leak, the kind people at this hotel took us in. Stayed 4 days. The room was bare bones, but comfortable. Beach front, and well worth the price. Never used the kitchenette, but the refrigerator and air condition were very welcome. The food at the restaurant was inexpensive and excellent. The whole operation is a family affair, and the kids spoke English quite well. The whole family was quite generous, kind, and helped us practice our ridiculously bad Greek in a judgement free way. We loved this place so much. It is getting harder to find places in Greece where you can interact more with real Greeks than the mobs of tourists, and this is one of those places. Highly recommended.
