In the enchanting island of Paxos, after a long and exhausting bike ride, we find by pure chance this characteristic and suggestive tavern with wooden trellises and vine climbing plants that created a magnificent frame, enriched by warm light bulbs that created the right welcoming atmosphere; Obviously our dear Hellenic cat friends could not be missing. We stopped to sip a good refreshing glass of retsina with a lot of amazement of the tavern keeper (a great character, an imposing presence, true and genuine) who at our request for the legendary Hellenic drink was amazed that we Italians liked it. Read moreThis is all I have been looking for since the. day one we arrived to Paxoi! There are a lot of touristic places around if you want a mid-touristic and gastronomic experience which are not authentic Greek. George's tavern "Karekles" is local, traditional, non- formal and typical Greek as most of taverns used to be before the tourism invasion in Greece. Cats, nice village atmosphere, excellent Greek dishes, olive trees and beautiful nature! There are awesome beaches all around so its a full day experience. If you are more formal tourist fond of common and commercial restaurants, than go to Gaios. This tavern is only for those who want to feel local and informally relaxed with great greek homemade food....

We used to eat in Kareklas taverna every day; the taverna looks like a movie scene, picturesque, charming and we felt very welcomed by Georgios, who is the owner and the chef. The food is fabulous, I’d die for the giant beans😃. If we go back to Paxos it will not be only because of the incredible beauty of the island but also because of Kareklas taverna. Jorgo, big thanks from...
