O Kapetanios — Restaurant in Municipality of Piraeus

We went there Sunday at 14.30 (with a reservation, you won't find a table otherwise). We had high hopes because we read good reviews and the place was swarming with people. However, we were disappointed. Good points: a) some of the starters were really good (aubergine, tirokauteri, tsiros) b) good prices. We were 6 and paid 113€ for 1kg of shrimp, 05kg of another small fish and around 8 starter/side dishes, plus wine. Bad points: a) really bad service. They should have had more waiters; and the waiters should be a bit less rude. I get that the job is difficult but people go there to have a good time. b) very few options for main courses; they have some fish that you go see (they're kept in trays filled with ice) and select. It's about 8 types of fish, some of which can only be fried (not grilled) and all of them are big and not very fresh (their eyes were cloudy) c) no treat at the end. A hard to find, well kept hidden jem. This fish food is there for years with no change in fish quality and cooking secrets. From fresh fish to squids, everything is very tasteful and perfectly cooked. After cooking oil can't be found either at plates or in food. Order ahead your fish soup and in non-busy dates, shrimp pasta in order to avoid waiting. Don't push them for a shrimp pasta during holidays; they won't mess their cuisine. Fish is delicious and extremely fresh. The server asks you to pick it straight from an exposition tray with ice and then they'll cook it as you like (fried or grilled).
