On our quest for gyro we had high hopes for this place as the food we wanted was in the name! The seating area was spacious and looked classy right by the water. There were lots of locals having food and getting takeaway. Which only added to our hopes this place would be good.
But alas we were really disappointed. The menu was massive and mostly in Greek with only the ingredients in English so it wasn't always clear what the dishes were. We ordered a Greek salad to start, which was actually very good. We also ordered Granny's fried bread because it sounds intriguing. It turned out to be a feta and tomato sandwich...
For mains we both ordered chicken gyro, or what we thought was gyro, but it was actually gyro meat with salad and pitta on the side. The portion was massive. Huge. So in that way good value. But unfortunately the chicken gyro meat was inedible. So ridiculously salty and the meat tasted quite low quality (almost offal-like). I left almost all of mine. It was...
Read moreUnfortunately, Gyrokomeio failed to meet our expectations. Having read a plethora of positive reviews on Google and elsewhere, we decided to give it a try. The location and atmosphere are as described in most reviews, but the food (especially the meat we ordered) was extremely subpar. We ordered pork souvlaki (7) which was extremely fatty and tasteless and therefore overpriced considering the actual quality of the meat. Also, a big part of the souvlaki was burnt (4 out of 7 had big chunks of burnt meat). The pork kontosouvli was brought to our table cold, dry and overcooked, as if it had been reheated. The meat was not good quality meat. The salads and tiganopsomo were satisfactory but still overpriced considering the quality offered. The service was very slow which would have been ok considering how busy the place was, if the staff had been friendlier. Overall, it is overpriced for the quality of food it offers, and would definitely...
Read morePros :Good atmosphere/service sea view Cons : mediocre small souvlaki at a price that doesn't much the taste / quality nor the location ( small town). They started well, but the food became less tasty and more expensive while the portions got smaller. The only reason it's still popular is the sea view and lack of other souvlaki places that have a good sitting area. It wouldn't survive in Athens because souvlaki is meant to be quick and cheap. There is a clear difference between this and a tavern, but they charge restaurant/tavern prices for "fast food," and it's really not worth it especially because the taste is not special at all. Lately, many business owners want to rip off tourists and locals, thinking they will have Mykonos profits. The place could be better if the owners were more...
