Giannikos Tavern — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

This is truly a pearl among taverns in Creete. A genuine and welcoming host that makes you feel right at home. Four generations have been working here since 1880, so this tavern comes with a long heritage of making Greek food. Very cozy place where you can dine in or sit outside on the beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking a part of this village.

They have a charcoal grill inside, and the host suggests what home made Greek dishes that he recommends from the menu. There's also fresh fish on the menu for those who love fish.

If you have some time to spare, take a walk inside the alley next to the tavern to discover some real authentic Greek views.

For those arriving by car, please note that there's a parking some 50m before the tavern on the same side of the road in case those slots along the village road are taken.

Wow, what a gem of a local Cretan taverna in the centre of Prines!

Firstly, this place is sooooo friendly and Giannis (sorry if I spelt your name incorrectly :) and his amazing staff make you feel like you’ve been invited around to his for a meal and to relax and enjoy the absolutely delicious locally sourced produce he and his team serve up for your utter enjoyment!

A terrific atmosphere outside on a greek style terrance shaded with a beautiful tree. By far some of the best table service you will ever get with one of the best restaurant owners I have ever known, a lovely, beautifully cooked evening meal and sharing platter recommended by the fab owner, who made our visit feel extremely personal and made sure that our table 'came and left with a smile'. He mentioned the importance of customers and their enjoyment of food was so important that if we were to try something new and not like it that he would create another dish for us for free!
