Well we discovered Taverna Mylopetra by accident as we were actually on the way to Cafe Fantastica but took a wrong turn.
We met the owner and Chef Christos who was giving us directions to the Fantastica, however we thought Christos was so kind and welcoming we would try his Tavera for lunch instead, they say you discover the best places by accident.
Taverna Myropetra is in the heart of the historic village of Maroulas with its 7 churches , herb remedy shop and fantastic views.
We had wanted to visit a traditional Creatian non tourist Taverna all our holiday but this was a fantastic experience. We met many of the local villages, and the village Pope on the terrace many who had come from places like Sweden, Germany and the UK having fallen in love with this quaint village.
The food was fantastic , we tried lamb chops and chicken souvlaki with greek salad with tzatziki and stuffed peppers. Christos finished it off with Grapa and an apple and yoghurt desert.
All was superb and we felt like part of a family when leaving with locals showing us their homes, the village towers and the walk to the highest of the seven churches past a souce of natural water to panoramic views.
If you want to experience first class hospitality along with excellent food direct from Christos the chef give Taverna Mylopetra a try. We were staying at the Amira Luxury Resort and Spa, Adelianos Kampos, only a 6km/10 minute drive away which we wished we had...
Read moreWanderful taverna with delicious home-made traditional food located in the very centre of the village and with a magnificent view. Cozy, calm and with exellent traditional music. The tavern is housed in an old olive oil mill and has this stone mill in front of the entrance which dates back to the 9th century! Even more impressive are the three ritual stones of Minoian times among the tables. Since we expressed interest in the history of the village Iliya of the staff showed us books about the village (one of them written by him) and showed us aroud the village after the meal. It was an increadible experience! We also bought some of their home-made honey and olive oil. Highly...
Read moreTaverna Mylopetra is an absolutely wonderful place, perfect if you want to enjoy authentic Greek food. Everything was amazing — the food was absolutely delicious, the service was excellent, the staff incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere simply magical. They have kept the traditional Greek spirit alive, from the dishes to the decor. They also have a small shop where you can buy local products and bring a little piece of Crete home with you. We bought some fantastic honey and a special olive oil, made by their own chef. I wholeheartedly recommend this place, especially if you are looking for an authentic, relaxing experience...
