Im westlichen Teil auf der Südseite am Libybischen Meer mitten im Dorf Anopoli gelegen ist es Station für einen Tagesausflug zur Aradena-Schlucht und zum Ort Agio Ioannis, am Fuße des Lefka Ori Gebirges. Dort endet die Straße am kleinen Platz. Vom Hotel Vantaris Beach an der Nordküste benötigt man fast 2h mit dem Auto für 70km bis zur Taverne. Start ist Kavros bei Georgiupolis, auf der Epar. Od. Vruson-Choras Sfakion führt der Weg durch Vrisses, Alikambos, Askifou, an der Imbros-Schlucht vorbei (gute Aussichtsplattform an den drei Tunneln), die Serpentinen hinunter in das idyllische Fischerdorf Chora Sfakion mit seinem kleinen Hafen, dann die Serpentinen wieder hinauf bis Kambria und Anopoli. Weiter auf dieser Straße kommst du zur Aradena-Schlucht, die du über eine gewöhnungsbedürftige Brücke überquerst. Dicke Holzbohlen mit Zentimeterabständen lassen den Blick hinunter zu. Bungee-Jumping ist möglich. Die Speisen der Taverne sind geschmackvoll und reichlich, die Getränke gekühlt. Unter einem Blätterdach der Platanen sitzt du im Freien und hörst den Zikaden zu. Located in the western part on the south side on the Libyan Sea in the middle of the village of Anopoli, it is a stop for a day trip to the Aradena Gorge and the town of Agio Ioannis, at the foot of the Lefka Ori Mountains. Βρίσκεται στο δυτικό τμήμα της νότιας πλευράς του Λιβυκού Πελάγους στη μέση του χωριού Ανώπολη και αποτελεί στάση για μια ημερήσια εκδρομή στο φαράγγι της Αράδαινας και στην πόλη του Αγίου Ιωάννη, στους πρόποδες των Λευκών Ορέων. Ο δρόμος τελειώνει εκεί στη μικρή πλατεία. Από το ξενοδοχείο Vantaris Beach στη βόρεια ακτή χρειάζονται σχεδόν 2 ώρες με το αυτοκίνητο για 70 χιλιόμετρα μέχρι την ταβέρνα. Η αρχή είναι ο Καβρός κοντά στη Γεωργιούπολη, στην Επαρ. Od. Βρυσών-Χώρας Σφακίων το μονοπάτι οδηγεί μέσα από Βρύσες, Αλίκαμπο, Ασκύφου, μετά από το φαράγγι της Ίμβρου (καλή πλατφόρμα θέασης στις τρεις σήραγγες), τις σερπαντίνες κάτω στο ειδυλλιακό ψαροχώρι της Χώρας Σφακίων με το μικρό της λιμάνι και μετά πάλι από τις σερπεντίνες για να Καμπρίων και Ανώπολης. Συνεχίζοντας σε αυτόν τον δρόμο φθάνετε στο φαράγγι της Αράδαινας, το οποίο περνάτε πάνω από μια γέφυρα που χρειάζεται λίγη εξοικείωση. This was my second visit to Anopoli and Platanos Tavern. I love that it’s off the beaten path where you truly get to experience the Cretan hospitality and immerse yourself in the locals daily rhythms.

It’s a few miles down the mountain from crystal clear beaches and within walking distance of the Aradena Gorge. The views from the top of the gorge were breathtaking with some of the best hiking trails I’ve ever been on.

Popi and her crew were warm and welcoming just like last time. Her Sfakiani Pita (a local delicacy usually enjoyed at breakfast) was to die for. The food was homemade with simple, clean ingredients. All the ingredients used are farm to table and it shows. My husband is still raving about the goat stew and stuffed zucchini, delicious.

We bought a ton of their honey and olive oil and hope it lasts through the year.

The rooms were simple and clean. My favorite part was sleeping with the door wide open and hearing absolutely...

Our best stay in Crete! We felt like staying with family, the staff are super friendly and they go out of their way to make you welcome, chat with you, give suggestions..

The rooms are very very comfortable, newly furnished and have all you need for your stay with amazing views of course.

The restaurant took our stay to a different level, it had many many options, you'd want to try all the menu when you see how delicious and rich the food is made with all home made ingredients, as well they cook all fresh ingredients, so they cook what they have that day, always ask before ordering 😏.

The staff again are beyond friendly, Dimitri especially was our host ❤️ they offer the food with love and care, the prices were not touristic like other places, and the portions were generous, and at the end always there is desert waiting for you.
