If you are hungry, don't go here, because it will take ages to be served. The restaurant was not crowded (not even half full), but we waited around 15 minutes just to get the menu and even longer to get the food. English menu is translated very bad (admited staff themselves), mostly you cannot understand what you will get. We ordered some appetizers and seafood. Food was delicious yet sea food price was twice as much but portion size did not change what so ever. The unexpected things - during the lunch water was served. Later it was included in the bill (we did not ordered it). Another thing, we've been suggested to ordered homemade lemonade, which was just lemon juice in the water. In the bill one glass cost 4eur. It was suggested by the staff, yet lemonade is not even in the menu. In this restaurant Risling wine (the most expensive drink they have in the menu) cost 4eur which they charged us for that lemon water that they call lemonaid... very dissapointing experience. To top things up, bill had 1eur charge per person which is not...
Read moreVery nice view to sea, nice plating BUT: the shrimps were bitter, service was very poor, they forgot to bring Parmesan cheese for pasta and when I tried to remind about that, their attitude was not very encouraging… Fresh fish was kept on the freezer 😁, looks like stone, and the smallest fish was about 400 grams. Overall was ok-ish experience thanks to the sea view and free nice desert from the house that was delicious: water melon and brownie cake.
(Edit after living the restaurant) After the review above, the owner and his stuff came to our table very nervous and aggressive and told us to leave immediately the local because I am the only one who doesn’t appreciate his food. He said that his fish is fresh and presented to me a Greek receipt dated today (03Jul2024) and told me that the fish was bought from the market today by himself. His attitude was very unprofessional, he caused stress for me, my family and also...
Read moreOff-season, few restaurants remain open along the beaches of Crete’s east coast. By chance, I stumble upon Fotis Seaside, a place that immediately catches the eye thanks to its stunning location right on Chiona Beach.
The menu is quite rich and varied, so finding something appealing isn’t difficult. I go for a green salad with guacamole — unfortunately, the latter is store-bought — and zucchini blossom fritters stuffed with cheese. The dishes are nicely presented, but sadly lacking in flavor: the guacamole tastes of nothing, and the fritters mainly of frying oil.
The service, too, leaves something to be desired. Perhaps it’s just an off-season slump, but the extreme slowness and rather closed, unwelcoming attitude take away from the experience.
Still, I was there to enjoy the moment and the sunshine — which, while it doesn’t excuse everything, often manages to make up for...
