If you are looking for a restaurant in Vari, do not come here.
We had booked a reservation at this restaurant for a table of 4 at 8:15 PM on the night of a festival on the beach with live music. We showed up at 8 PM and the restaurant was mostly empty at that point. The service staff wanted to seat us at a table towards the middle of the restaurant. We saw there was another table for 4 available with a better view, and we asked if we could sit there instead. The staff said no and told us that the table was reserved. We replied that we had also made a reservation so why could we not sit there? Without even checking, the staff claimed that the party with that table made the reservation before we had, therefore they were entitled to the better table. We had reserved far in advance and thought this was unlikely, but we let this slide and sat at the table they gave us.
There was a party of 4 sitting at a table next to us who had been there before we arrived. They decided that they wanted to move to another table at the back of the restaurant, and the staff immediately accomodated them. We then asked if we could move to the now vacant table of 4 which also had a better view and clearly was not reserved for another party. The waitress then replied, "What you're doing now is awful." This was shocking to us since this was a reasonable request. Still, we sat there at our original table.
Over the next half hour, the staff proceeded to ignore us and did not come to take our order. The only thing they brought to our table was water. A couple who came in later than us were served wine and salad while we were still waiting for the staff to come take our dinner order or even ask if we wanted anything else to drink. At this point, we felt very frustrated and it was clear that if we stayed at this restaurant we would not enjoy our night at all. We decided to leave our table and ended up eating dinner at another restaurant a few steps down the beach, who happily accommodated us even without a reservation and went out of their way to serve us on a very busy night.
Since the only thing we had at Enlefko was water, I cannot speak to the quality of the food. But even if it were good, that would not have made up for the terrible service we received which we have not experienced anywhere else on the island. For anyone looking to enjoy Greek hospitality, this is not the...
Read moreOur experience at this restaurant was unfortunately disappointing. While it is pleasantly situated, the quality of the food and service left much to be desired.
We arrived for a late lunch and ordered the starred dishes (spicy tuna and skewered seafood/shrimp), but the food was inedible. The tuna was seared on the outside but cold and hard on the inside, as if it was frozen before cooking and not properly thawed. The toast was soaked in dressing, causing it to fall apart, and the salads tasted stale, as if they were from the previous day. My partner and I are not usually picky eaters, but neither of us finished our plates.
For our child, we ordered grilled chicken from the kids’ menu and requested to substitute the French fries with pasta, willing to pay extra, but they couldn’t accommodate the change. Suspiciously, they said they couldn’t make the change because it was “ready-made,” which might have been a translation issue (or simply saying that the dishes are pre-made and waiting for reheating). The chicken was dry, and the French fries were soft and reheated, possibly microwaved. It seemed like the plate was sitting in the refrigerator and simply microwaved a bit.
Hoping to improve the situation with drinks, we asked if they could make an Aperol spritz, but they did not offer it. The drink options were limited to wine, beer, and soda. Given the higher-end pricing of the dishes, it was surprising and disappointing that there were no cocktail options available.
We paid about 60 euros for three people. After our unpleasant surprise with the food, we tried to improve our experience by asking the kitchen to redo their signature dish, the spicy tuna priced at 18 euros, but it remained unsalvageable. This is worth mentioning because you could end up spending significantly more on wine, desserts, and appetizers, which sets a higher expectation for the restaurant.
Overall, it was an unfortunate and costly experience. With limited time on holiday, I wish we had chosen a...
Read moreI had perhaps one of the worst dining experiences of my life at this restaurant.
I’m generally not one to write a review, but this restaurant still haunts me a month after I went. I’m going to try to be polite in how I say this: the servers were nasty, filthy, and utterly disgusting in how they treated my friends and me. For context, we had a reservation on the night of a big holiday. We sat down in the restaurant, which was nearly empty, and asked for a better table, to which they refused to give us and began insulting us. Following this, they avoided our table and refused to serve us; we watched them sit down and stare out into the sea for over half-an-hour in an empty restaurant while we tried flagging them down to take our order. Another couple sat down after us and was immediately served salad and wine, and still the servers did not attend to our table. Why they would do this, especially on such an auspicious holiday, you ask?
I could only presume that the servers were either stressed out or that they were racist/xenophobic as I was the only non-Greek individual there. It’s a shame that I flew so far across the world to enjoy a nice dinner and religious holiday with my friends and was treated so poorly. I hope no one ever has to experience this kind of treatment, because it was truly degrading and demoralizing. We ended up leaving and going to another restaurant a few steps away which happily accommodated us.
DO NOT come to Enlefko. You will leave disappointed and...
