An overall 5-star experience for me. Some of the best Italian food I have had in Athens.
Food:
We kicked off with the Panzanella (tomatoes, pickled red onion, crisp neapolitan bread, buffalo burrata) and it was definitely one of the favourites. The burrata was perfectly creamy and not at all watery. The pickled onion, baby tomatoes were complimented with fresh basil leaves and crunchy/nutty neapolitan bread (more like paximadi rather than bread). Do not let the simplicity of this dish fool you, the textures and flavours rank this dish high. It's a a delicious yet light dish so basically a no-brainer to add to your order every single time you visit. If the Neapolitan paximadi was sold seperately, I would stock up my pantry. Five star here.
We then had the Vitello Tonatto: Generally, I am a big fan of this dish, however this is not the best one I have had in Athens. The veal loin was beautifully cooked and the potion was generously thick, however the sauce had a strong mayo-like taste in my opinion. My boyfriend disagreed, he loved both the veal and sauce and emptied the plate. So overall a strong dish and the details are subject to personal preference.
Pistachio Cacio e pepe: the standards were high for this pasta and boy did it exceed expectations! Bias aside (as I am a major fan of anything pistachio), perfectly cooked pasta with great balance of pecorino and pepper and grated pistachio on the top. The best cacio e Pepe I have had since moving here. I do not usually repeat dishes at restaurants, so I will struggle not to order it again if I go back.
pasta ragu: my boyfriend ordered this dish, however I was too self absorbed and excited with my dish that the Ragu seemed insignificant in comparison. The ragu was really good, however my boyfriend found the pasta undercooked. (He only eats pasta if it's al dente). He tends to find pasta overcooked rather than vice versa. I had no food envy here.
Pistachio Tiramisu: dessert of the day - I cannot describe how good this dessert is. Pistachio cream on some sponge on light syrup. This dessert must, must, must, become a permanent feature in the menu (please!). I think the attached picture speaks for itself.
Wine: Excellent red wine. I cannot remember the name or variety for the life of me. All I remember is was the fuller body one out of the "by the glass" options. If anyone from the restaurant sees this please let me know which one it was. I think it was priced at EUR 7 per glass.
Pizza: I wish I had two stomachs. The pizzas looked and smelled bomb, but we were only a party of two and still took food home with us. Had major food envy for the table next to us. I will return for the pizza. Recommendations are welcome.
Staff:
The staff were warm and polite and went to great lengths to assist and ensure we were happy diners. Thumbs up to the troopers, it was a busy evening and everything was handled with a good attitude and a smile.
Atmosphere:
Cosy, nice decor and live Italian music. I was truly living...
Read moreResponse to the owner: Always when someone is expressing a review/ opinion on something it is always subjective. Impressions about the food as well, since they reflect personal experiences that shape the culinary opinion of a person. However, what is clearly heard by not one but two people can only be objective. Even if we misunderstood the situtation it is bad experience hearing anyone from any establishment call names in front of us. Have a great rest of the day!
Original review: We visited the restaurant on October 15th, a party of two people. It is located in Vari quite far from the main popular restaurant places of Athens. The inside of the place is beautifully decorated with an open kitchen and wood oven. We ordered:
So, for the food alone in my point of view it is worth 4 out of 5 stars. However, I am deducting another star because a) the prices could be better. I am sure the raw materials cost a lot but I do not think the real estate in the specific road is too high b) Although they use industrial sized venting, after we left our clothes smelled. The open kitchen concept has its setbacks
I also deduct another star because we both clearly heard the chef refer to a member of her staff as “retarded”. Specifically in Greek: πες του καθυστερημένου που έχετε για πάσο να.. - tell to the retarded person you have that does pass to… For me this is unacceptable. If you cannot hold your tongue in front of customers do not have an open kitchen concept.
Last but not least, all our servers and reception were very professional and friendly. If you are in the area do visit but it’s not worth the trip if...
Read moreIn Athens for work, after 10 days of Greek food, we looked for an Italian restaurant to go to eat. Among the google search appeared Napul'è on the southern outskirts of Athens. As Neapolitans we decided to go and visit this place and were also intrigued by some criticisms. We paid 30 euros by taxi to get to the restaurant from the center so we had high expectations. I honestly don't know where to start. The place is very warm and welcoming, the staff very kind and prepared. But let's go to the strong point. Here you eat better than in Naples! We travel the world for work and we always visit Italian restaurants abroad. But this is something special. We are literally amazed by the quality and authenticity of the flavours. Feels like home in Naples! The pizza is among the best ever tasted and I am convinced among the top in the world. The arancino is absurdly cool with an unforgettable flavour. Vitello tonnato among the top 3 ever tasted. Neapolitan ragù better than my mother makes it (and I swear my mother is Neapolitan and she makes it very good). Carbonara authentic and worthy of the best taverns in Rome! I've never eaten babà so good even at Scaturchio in Naples! Before writing this review I had a look at the negative reviews as I thought you might not have found all of them excellent. I would therefore like (as a true Neapolitan) to tell all those who gratuitously criticize the dishes of this restaurant that you understand absolutely nothing of Neapolitan and Italian cuisine. Avoid gratuitously offending people who do their job excellently and try to be less arrogant and more productive. I highly recommend to all Italians visiting Athens to visit this place and to all Greeks who want to appreciate real and authentic Italian and Neapolitan cuisine. You will...
