Efthalou restaurant — Restaurant in Municipality of Western Lesvos

We’re Italians living in Belgium who have been coming to Lesvos for 20+ summers. We knew very well the previous restaurant and love authentic delicious food regardless of the source: a brodo di purp in a plastic cup or fine-dining wild abalone from the Brittony coast bring us both incredibly joy and excitement.

As the ancient classic philosophers and equally prestigious Disney’s Ratatouille movie teach us, incredible food is about memory: it’s about revisiting simple recollections from the past while awakening all the senses and this restaurant does a great job at it. We are so fortunate that incredible food is everywhere in Lesvos and I believe that this restaurant also manages to take something you know and have eaten and enjoyed a thousand times and twist it on its head and elevate it to its highest possible level.

A bit like a fine dining restaurant from Capri opening in Naples, we believe the restaurant took a bold step out of place and arrived with strong ideas (and delicious food) in a place that (rightfully) strongly defends its traditions and authenticity - having suffered for the past years from an increasing development of standardised mass touristic attractions/restaurants. But we believe this restaurant is finding its rightful place within and listening to the locals: its colours, its growing garden, the soft music and closer attention to its surrounding nature (including the cute local cats!), its updated menu economically accessible to everyone (props for highlighting vegetarian and vegan options as well) coupled with its impeccable food makes us believe it should be given a chance. We believe if they keep such a menu affordable to locals and invest even more in the nature/garden within and surrounding the restaurant they have everything to succeed. If this restaurant was in Mykonos you’d have to fight to get a reservation. If it was in Belgium they would be completely booked for months. They took a gamble by opening in a place where food, authenticity and culture are already at the highest possible level, but we think they offer something that can complement it and recommend you try it for a special occasion or more.

Η κριτική αφορά το εστιατόριο έπειτα από την ανακαίνιση. Προσωπικά δεν θα το ξανά επισκεφτόμουν καθώς θεωρώ ότι χρειάζεται πολύ "δουλειά" ακόμη προκειμένου να αποτελεί μια δυνατή επιλογή.

Ο εξωτερικός χώρος είναι πολύ όμορφος, προσεγμένος και η ατμόσφαιρα χαλαρή καθώς επίσης πρόκειται για μια πολύ ήσυχη τοποθεσία με ωραία θέα της θάλασσας και του ηλιοβασιλέματος. Στο μενού υπάρχει μικρή σχετικά ποικιλία με 2 πιάτα κρεατικά, 3 σαλάτες και κυρίως θαλασσινά (επιλογές οι οποίες δεν ταιριάζουν απόλυτα μεταξύ τους). Επίσης δεν αναγράφεται τι περιλαμβάνει το κάθε πιάτο με αποτελέσμα να ρωτήσεις το προσωπικό το οποίο δεν γνωρίζει πολύ καλά το μενού. Επιλέξαμε σαλάτα Bulls Blonde, κριθαρότο καραβίδας (το οποίο όπως μας ενημέρωσαν το έκαναν με γαρίδες) και από επιδόρπια τη μους χαλβά και το τιραμισού. Τα πιάτα ήταν χορταστικά και αρκετά νόστιμα χωρίς κάτι το ιδιαίτερο. Τα ψωμάκια που προσφέρονται ήταν πολυ νόστιμα. Συνδυάσαμε με κρασί.

Στα αρνητικά: -Το προσωπικό διώχνει τις αδέσποτες γάτες εντελώς απροκάλυπτα σαν να είναι κάτι αναμενόμενο και φυσιολογικό να συμβαίνει. -Στη βοήθεια του service συμμετείχαν παιδιά (μάλλον του ιδιοκτήτη). Η γενικότερη εξυπηρέτηση του προσωπικού δεν αρμόζει σε εστιατόριο. -Οι τιμές δεν ανταποκρίνονται στο γενικότερο σύνολο (κουβερ 2 ατόμων στα 8 ευρώ, νερό στα 4 ευρώ, για όλα τα παραπάνω μαζί με μία σόδα πληρώσαμε 90,50 και μας έδωσαν δώρο μια κάρτα έκπτωσης σε επόμενη επίσκεψη) εξυπηρέτησης & φαγητού. Ο εσωτερικός χώρος θα έπρεπε να είναι το ίδιο προσεγμένος με τον εξωτερικό.

Στα θετικά: -Υπάρχει χώρος στάθμευσης. -Υπάρχουν περιθώρια βελτίωσης, αν ενδιαφέρονται οι ιδιοκτήτες θα αποτελεί ένα χώρο που δεν υπάρχει προς το παρόν στο νησί. -Η κοπέλα στο service είναι ευγενική, όπως επίσης και το άτομο με το οποίο κάναμε την τηλεφωνική κράτηση.

It is now a concrete place with now trees and new owners with a very expensive menu. Not a very nice atmosphere although maybe they will improve it in the future. View of the sea is nice.

The food was ok, seafood cooked well, but not worth 25 euro per main. It is some fusion of modern Greek cuisine. Food takes a long time to serve
