Mourágio — Restaurant in Municipality of Xylokastro and Evrostina

I will not recommend this place to anyone. The staff is not welcoming at all. Half of the menu was not available. Half of the restaurant was reserved, and no one showed up within 1h. They told us the first table to be free, it’s yours. When the occupied table becomes available, they told us ‘not this one’ cause this is reserved too. They profile people.

Anyhow, due to hunger and heat, we stayed for the second available table. I got pastiche, which half of it was cold. My friend got shrimp pasta. The shrimp was not fresh. I got grilled squid as well. Our third visit to Xylokastro and we always return to Mouragio. I’ve read some of the low reviews and they must be fake because we have never had an issue. This restaurant has been around for decades. We return for the dry rose and incredible food. They have daily specials which are fresh! This year upon our first visit we enjoyed their kokkinisto, fresh fish, shrimp tempura, shrimp saganki, fresh greens, village salads - and we will definitely be eating there a few more times before our departure. We ate here for two consecutive nights. The food was a celebration of pure, honest flavors — lemon, tomato, olive oil — ingredients so simple yet so full of life that they made us appreciate the beauty of nature all over again. The fish was exceptional - fresh, expertly prepared. And the calamari without exaggeration, the best we’ve ever had. Tender and flavourful.
