Disrespectful service and bad food.
I want to start by saying that it is not usual that I leave a bad review, it has actually never happened if I am honest, but this is a story I just must tell. First of all, when arriving there is a (I suppose 40 years old ) woman who “welcomes you”, doesn’t seem kind right away and was giving me bad looks but this could be a personal impression . We sit down, the place is cute but nothing special, they did not give us a great table , even though we reserved in advance. We are used to eating fish because we love it and we know that prices can be expensive especially if it is fresh and cooked good. But I did not think I was so used to excellence until I tried this place. Right after we order before even having time to settle, the waiter already asks if we are going to pay with cash or card. How tacky is that you ask customers so in advance, you ask that at the end when you bring the bill, I found that really inappropriate for a place so “renowned”. The food arrives very quickly and plates are almost thrown at the table, there is not much care. As for appetizers, Dakos was the only good thing, even though I found a very hard piece of feta cheese while the rest was melted, thought that was weird and supposed it was frozen but kept it to myself. The fried cheese (typical from Crete I do not remember the exact name) was bad bad , it tasted like how plastic would taste. But now come the main plates: one shrimp tempura and tuna tartare. The tuna tartare was so covered in lemon and other things that you could not taste the fish, usually when one orders tartare it would be nice if one could actually taste the fish. The tempura consisted in 5 pieces (20€ for 5 pieces, so you think it is delicious). It tasted like cod , did not even taste like actual shrimp. But here is the fun part: I ask my boyfriend to try it and he also thinks it has a very weird taste so I decide to ask to the waiter , very kindly because I actually respect people, “is the tempura frozen?” he immediately says “yes”, without flinching, without a doubt. So i say “oh ok , tastes like it” he says “really??” With a surprised face. So mystery solved, even though you should write it down in the menu. Well, not even 10 minutes later the chef comes out and starts walking around our table giving us dirty looks and not talking to us ( he didn’t speak English I know , but still no need for the scene) and then the grown woman at the entrance comes and literally starts screaming at me that the fish is not frozen. She was yelling so much that people of other tables were turning around, so disgusting. I am a customer who pays to eat here (and also too much for this place who does not deserve it not for the service let alone for the food ) and I get disrespected like that. Who do you think you are to treat customers like that? Also, I wondered why she only yelled at me and not at my boyfriend who also stated the tempura was not good. Maybe because I am a young woman and you think you can do that? What if my dad was there ? Would she yell like that at him too? I don’t think so honey. When you mess up, accept it. Don’t go blaming the client, be better and use critics to actually improve. I do not care if that dish was frozen or not, the food was not good. Maybe I am just used to better food. The aggressive behavior was unacceptable, will never recommend this place to anyone. There are so many better places In skopelos, with great service who treats you right. Every other place I went, I left happy and with new acquaintances. Here is the only place I didn’t, so who is...
Read moreOne year of expectations destroyed in a glimpse... We decided to return to this beautiful island and previously great restaurant, having in mind the good experience we had in 2020, but we received HUMILIATION instead!!! The entire attitude was as if we are poor people begging for food!! You cannot complain to anyone since it was the lady owner doing this!!!
I consider myself as a polite and normal person, not too fancy, not too picky. Not a "review contributor" kind. Imagine yourself arriving after 1 year in a Sunday afternoon and instead of being invited to a table you receive a blank response that the restaurant opens at 2 pm (we have later found it to be a lie). Still, very good experience one year before, so we decided to book a table by phone for 2 pm. When we arrived, the restaurant was half occupied, people eating and drinking and the table that we received was the first that you come across when you enter the restaurant. We have politely asked for another table and they gave us one that was not prepared (dirty).... don't imagine that they didn't have tables available, since no reservation sign on any . Finally, table set, waiting for the menus, which arrived after 10-15 minutes. Another 10-15 minutes for them to pick-up the order. One may find the excuse of being a busy time, but that was not the case, since the other tables were getting their food and drinks. Instead we received a bottle of water slammed on the table...
Ordered the food and wine and the show continued.
The wine (Gerovassiliou -Chardonnay, 39 eur a bottle) came without the ice bucket. The latter arrived after another 10 minutes of the bottle warming itself. Do you have marinated anchoives (Kolibitos)? Nope, the fishermen have a full moon (ha ha) an they cannot catch them. We have then saw other tables getting their Kolibitos, so this was the second lie (served with humiliation aside). We have asked the lady owner why the other tables are getting and we are not, and we received another lie, that they have just been prepared... The delicious Ntako salad that we experienced so many times in 2020, so we decided to order one. Bad choice: the bread was dry (not moist, as the recipe is), and the traditional Skppelos goat cheese has been replaced by crushed Feta!!! Same price as last year though... Ordered fried calamary. I think the oil they used to fry was at least 2 days old. We have been stomach sick all day after. Good old Fava with some slices of smoked eel. 18 euros? Usually it's 5-6 euros, so for 30 grams of smoked eel it looks like we paid 12 euros...
So after the warm white wine, missing Kolibitos, intentionally delayed lunch, bad taste calamary, destroyed Ntako salad, dirty table, 18 eur fava and a bunch of lies do you expect us to return??? Thank you for making us feel like common thiefs on...
Read moreI have to say I had high hopes going to this restaurant, after reading online reviews and it being recommended by my hotel. We sat down and the night started off well. Within 5 minutes the order was taken for 3 people, 1 salad, 4 appetizers, a plain pasta and a lobster pasta. Everything continued well the salad 3 of the 4 appetizers and the plain pasta arrived within the next 10 minutes, maybe even faster. The food is extremely delicious and good portions. But here the problems started. The 4th appetizer and the lobster pasta had not arrived for 40 minutes. I asked the waiter to please cancel the two remaining dishes, as by this time our apetite had gone. That waiter apologized and asked if he can offer us a desert with the bill which I agreed to. But no, about 7 minutes later I had another waiter come back with the two now cancelled dishes, saying here they are. I tried to refuse the dishes but he was insistenet so I relented and accepted the appetizer. But then a few minutes later, what I presume was his manager came back with the second dish, the expensive lobster pasta, saying that we had 200 hundred customers and this caused delays. Although I might be understanding of that, it is not my responsibility to manage the kitchens time, as a paying customer. So I refused to accept the dish. After we finished the appetizer we asked for the bill, which came within another 5 minutes. At that point the waiter asked me if all was well. I proceeded to give him my honest feedback. The food is very good, but the service needs working on. The response to that, you would think would be, thank you for the feedback, we apologise we will strive to be better next time. Nope, the response was, you ordered so much food, that is why we then delayed bring your last appetizer and your main for 40 minutes to an hour. If you wanted the timely delivery of your food, you should have told us to bring it, as soon as it can be ready. Just an unbelievable response. As a result I left no tip for this service. My honest feedback, please improve your attitude, accept feedback for what it is, instead of trying to shift blame to...
