Stefanos — Restaurant in Thermaikos Municipality

We visited Stefanos in Praia near Thessaloniki with our family of four on a quiet evening in April. The restaurant is pleasantly situated right on the beach, boasting a typical layout you'd expect from the establishments in the area. We had actually received a recommendation from a local businessman who praised the quality of their food, which made us hopeful for a lovely dinner.

Unfortunately, our experience at Stefanos left us quite disappointed, primarily due to what we perceived as incredibly rude behavior. When we asked for recommendations, we were met with the dismissive response, "We serve fish, it comes from over there in the sea." While language barriers can sometimes play a role, this interaction felt particularly unwelcoming and unhelpful.

It's possible we simply caught them on a bad moment, or perhaps there was a miscommunication we didn't fully grasp. However, the negative impression continued when our drinks were served incorrectly.

Considering other reviews for Stefanos seem quite positive, it's possible our visit was an anomaly. It might have been us, or perhaps the staff was having an off night. We came to Stefano’s based on a friend’s recommendation, but unfortunately, it didn’t meet our expectations. From the start, the service felt disorganized — different people kept coming and going from our table, bringing water, bread, and taking orders, and it was difficult to even tell who our server was. Some of the staff were wearing shirts with visible holes, which didn’t feel appropriate for a restaurant setting.

The atmosphere was also a bit awkward since there was no music, which made the place feel oddly quiet and uncomfortable. Service was very slow, and we often felt like we were inconveniencing them with each new request rather than being welcomed guests.

As for the food, it was hit and miss. The salad was fresh and generously sized, but other dishes were disappointing. The bread was hard to chew, some of the cheeses were tough to enjoy, and the mushrooms were overpoweringly strong. The meat wasn’t particularly memorable either.

Sadly, we didn’t feel like welcomed guests. But I do hope they work on these things because the place itself...

Everything was fine until I asked for the bill. I was given the order docket only instead of a proper bill stating I owed 45 euro, which I knew was wrong straight away so called the waiter, told him it's wrong and to give me a proper itemized bill from the machine. It came back to me 36.50 with an apology. Then the head waiter came and said I was the one that priced it up incorrectly, sorry, which I only responded to with a dry look because I'm 100% sure it was done on purpose as he thought I would not notice.
