One of Zakynthos hidden gem. We had a delightful dinner this evening. Came here reading other reviews and I was not mistaken. It's far out tourist area and it is popular among locals. Same prices or 1-2 euro less than tourist area restaurants but bigger size portions and better quality. Very nice garden and wonderful service. We have been asked several time during the dinner how we like it or if we need something else. One of my kids had Moussaka and it iwas by far double than any other moussaka I have ever ordered in my life. He only ate half of it and believe me this is the first time when he was not able finish a meal in last few years. The other two kids had pasta (Bolognese and Carbonara). For pasta lovers I have to say these two are far from original recipe and you can feel the local touch. The one named Carbonara have mushrooms and probably cream (but it was very tasty). Also the Bolognese had different style of ragu. Anyways, gigantic portions, Italians would make easily 2 portions out of it or even 3 if served as primo piato. Don't need to mention that they will finish the 2nd half the next day 🙂. My wife and I went for local. I had rabbit in olive oil and oregano and my wife had the gigantic chicken skewer (souvlaki). Both were very tasty. In the end we got the house complementary mille-feuille which was absolutely amazing. I would like to find time to return if possible before leaving the...
Read moreThis is easily one of our favorite restaurants to eat at while on the island. We visited during the slow season (November) when most of the smaller villages and taverna's are closed. As such, we could not find moussaka nearly anywhere as it is a seasonal dish. Even in the heart of downtown Zakynthos we found it impossible to find moussaka. We were pleasantly surprised to find it here. They had many new appetizers we had yet to try, one of which was the "Skordostoumpi", that we enjoyed thoroughly. The portions of our meals were incredibly large and satisfactory for the low cost. We have never had such large portions in Greece before. Neither of us could even finish half of our main plates. The service was outstanding and our waiter was incredibly friendly. Before eating he asked us about our vacation and he was very attentive in checking up on us. He even held the door for us as we left the restaurant. The atmosphere inside was very nice inside as well as they had decorated for Christmas. The complementary dessert was also the best we have had in Greece so far. Typically we would expect a plate of cut fruits, sometimes with honey drizzled atop, but we instead received an extremely delicious "mille feuille" that was beyond mouth watering. We would definitely recommend going out of your way to eat here when you visit Zakynthos. You won't be...
Read moreThe portions are ridiculously large. We ordered 3 starters, 1 salad, 1 tzatziki, and 1 main dish, which should have been fine for 2 hungry people under normal circumstances. We deliberately made these choices because we wanted to try as many traditional Greek dishes as possible — and starters/appetizers are supposed to be SMALL portions to whet your appetite for the main dish. Yet, that was definitely not the case here.
I find this approach insensitive and a bit of a show-off, especially considering the unfair distribution of food in the world. The main dish we ordered was moussaka, but unfortunately, we didn’t like it. It had too much cinnamon flavor, and the bechamel sauce was overwhelming compared to the eggplant and minced meat. To me, this was not a proper moussaka at all.
On the positive side, the meatballs with sauce and the salad were OK. However, be warned: the salad portion is enormous — easily enough for 5 people. The sausage and grilled cheese were below average.
Overall, this was the only bad (and worst) dining experience we’ve had in Zakynthos so far, and I do not plan to return. Thanks for the...
