Restaurant Ulo — Restaurant in Avannaata

Before I came, I heard reviews about the good food and how the restaurant got an award, so I was surprised to see the restaurant being empty at lunch-time. The lunch menu was very simple (only 1 page) and I ordered 3 types of open sandwiches (breaded halibut, smoked halibut, and smoked eel). While waiting for my food, I saw a number of visitors entering the restaurant to make reservations for dinner, but the waitress informed them that the restaurant was already fully booked for dinner, and she recommended them to either make a reservation for the next evening, or put their names in the waiting list for a late-evening slot. Soon, my open sandwiches arrived and I was very pleased with the presentation and the taste of the food.

The views are amazing and the food was good, but the service was absolutely horrible. They will not seat you without a reservation, even if the restaurant is empty. There were four people behind the "bar," the only staff in the restaurant, and they ignored anyone who approached them for several minutes. They couldn't clear a table. They seated several lone diners at 4-top tables so larger parties had to wait. We were a party of two and arrived at opening (6pm) only to be told they would not seat us until 8:30. We then sat for two and a half hours watching them fail to manage a mostly empty restaurant. The kitchen clearly knows what they are doing, but front staff do not. Food was nice but it is Such a terrible service to only use one of the areas closest to the kitchen so the waiters can have it easier for serving instead of opening the other areas for people that are already spending a Fortune to go all the way there for the sightseeing and for them to deny customers one of the best features (the view from there) is such a bad service, we asked for a table by the windows at the end and they said “they couldn’t because there was a big group coming over” that was such a bad lie first because the tables weren’t set up for a big group and second because they two hours to closing...
